I don't either but it's a problem for next years when Plekanec will return in Europe and Danault will replace him in the bottom 6. And the solution might very well be Poehling or Suzuki instead of Domi.

That's exactly what I was thinking about. Poehling apparently projects as a 3C. I'd like to see how well Suzuki will adapt while playing C full time from now on.

Care to list some examples of physical unreadiness ruining careers?

One example that comes to mind for me is Nugent-Hopkins,
The guy had a slim frame coming in the NHL kinda like Kotka and not long after the Oilers came to the decision to keep him more than 9 games, Nuge got a bad shoulder injury that took him out for about 2 months.

I feel like Nuge was expected to have a bigger impact than he does now in the NHL and part of it may be due to being rushed in when not physically mature.

Would hate seeing Kotka go through that

damn can we please let him go to Liiga or EVEN the AHL, is sucking one more year hard too hard? Getting Hughes would just... set this franchise back into contention in 2-3 years ish prior drafting him.

Depends, if the group of peoplke you have in the locker room is healthy, keep him. If its toxic dont.

He is 18yo he isn’t losing out not playing in the NHL. He was not dominating liiga last year ( wasn’t even playing C), he wasn’t even dominating rookie camp, the learning curve is impressive we see a lot of smart play and he seem to hold is own but he isn’t taking over games. His hockey sense able him to over come some of weakness but to take the next step he need to improve on is weakness.

well if a guy like mike ribeiro never had issues with his size and frame....then kotkaniemi can do it....when u have high level of hockey iq ...you can overcome those kind of issues and kotkaniemi has that. The only thing i worry about is that if can handle a 82 games nhl schedule

I think about the home sick factor after a month or two but then i think... his role model of all people Armia, Lehkonen and Niemi are there... pretty good surroundings for him

Plus, they can place one of these in front of his dressing room stall:

With Kotkaniemi, that's 4 Fins on the team. Does any other NHL have as many?

Four Fins might get us Saku to visit the BC more often and have a talk with the young phenom.

Dallas is probably going to have Hintz, Honka, Heiskanen and Lindell. That's it though. After that most is 3.

The issue isn’t if he can play the issue is that I thing playing in the NHL this year would not be the best solution for is long term progression. Also didn’t Ribeiro play is first full season like 4-5 years after he was drafted...

The best scenario as far as I'm concerned would be Laval;

Keep him in Laval till the WJC. Then send him out there. When he comes back, if everything go as planned, this team should be out of playoffs contention and pressure should be gone. Then, you call him back and see where he's at, and prepare him for 2019-2020. Ideally, you even add another top prospect next summer and all a sudden, you're ready to ice a competitive team that will contend for the playoffs as soon as 2020.

Actually, it took Ribeiro years to get over his strength and skating issues and establish himself as an NHLer.
