You've got to find a happy medium. The players did not like Stern, but they also like Silver TOO much to the point that Silver himself probably sees them as his friends first. That's got to change.

If this was any other time, I'd say be lenient because I'm a lenient guy. But Covid-19 is still running rampant, the league made it crystal clear prior to agreeing on a start date what you can and cannot do, and James Harden has been defying ALL of that.

He needs to be suspended for a minimum of two weeks. The league needs to set a precedent here so that these players aren't thinking "what the **** they gonna do? Fine me a bit?" They need to ensure not only players get hit financially but teams get hit financially with team fines AND they get hit on the court by not having the player(s) available for an extended period of time.

But that's all wishful thinking, because it's Adam Silver. He'll probably just ask Harden to "apologize" and then move on.

If the union was smart they would talk to the harden and other players about not pushing player empowerment to far. The last thing they want is owners of large market franchises with a lot of power being mad at the players in the next cba.
The NBAPA is very powerful and allows their players a lot of leeway to do things that would not be possible in other leagues.

The MLB players union is also very powerful but the owners in MLB where savvy and they got the players to agree to things that only negatively effected the generation after them.

True, but he’s defying protocol in place to prevent the spread of a virus that’s literally killing people... Not much to argue when there’s photo and video evidence all over social media.

Fine and suspend. NBA can send a few mil to COVID relief. Let Harden be an example of how much money it’ll cost to violate protocol.

The NBAPA would throw a fit though. They don't like an y kind of punishment towards their players.

That’s a fight the league needs to take. He could endanger lives, and now he’s hurting business by making himself, John Wall, and Demarcus Cousins unavailable to play.

It’s the second day of the season. If they don’t make a statement with this, it’ll be a problem all year.

Did Harden ever test positive? He just tested negative 3 days in a row.

I have been saying this for years. Silver tries too hard to fit in and be the cool guy. Kind of like the nerd that does other peoples homework so they like him and to fit in. Stern ruled with an iron fist which was 100% necessary and it benefitted the players BIG time long term.Silver lets the inmates run the asylum and its coming back to screw him right now.

Stern always made it clear nobody was above the rules. He also made it apparent it is a privilege for the players to play in the NBA, not a right.

Holy shit, I hate this guy.

Stephen Jackson should have said "you just want to chase rappers (and strippers*) around"

No wonder he wants to play in Miami or NYC.

What kills me is the empowerment excuse. It just hurts that entire movement when an arse uses it as an excuse (I don't even know if I'd call this an excuse given nobody even believes it)

James Harden's NBA Salary is $38,200,000

James Harden was fined $50,000

0.13% of his salary.

What the **** is this going to do to deter ANYONE from breaking the rules now?

Jesus Adam Silver has got to be the biggest pushover of a commissioner in professional sports without a doubt, and one of the biggest pushovers in history.

It is a joke.

That is the same as giving a $65 fine for someone making $50,000 a year.

Basically the same as a parking ticket.

If a team is unable to dress eight players due to negligence of the rules, they should be forced to forfeit that game and pay the opposing team's salaries for that game. It's the only way to ensure players abide by the rules.

Lol oh god. Just listened to Adam Silver on ESPN The Jump discuss why he only fined Harden $50,000. His reasons:

1) Because it's Christmas
2) This is his 1st offence because he wasn't under the same rules as everyone else before reporting to training camp (even though training camp already began for everyone else and they were following protocols)
3) This is the maximum he's allowed to fine Harden under the CBA
4) Punishments will get worse based on accumulating offences

This guy literally could not be any more of a pushover if he actively tried to be.

Silver has embarrassed himself with this situation and has become more of a laughing stock... maybe Hardens teammates should take matters in their own hands and tune Harden up... what a clown he is
