Yeah unfortunately, UD screwed up Artifacts bad this year. A bunch of boxes got not hits, and another bunch had twice the hits. I think UD may be helping people out on this though. Not sure how they prove who had a no hit box, but it is a well known problem.

I was never a fan of Artifacts, as jersey cards have no value and there are hardly any autos for the price point. I always found the design pretty ugly and uninspired too. At this price point, I much prefer sets like Ice or SPA. You can pull some pretty highly collectable rookies from those sets. The SPA has hard signed autos, which is nice.

Laf has also been playing terribly. But realistically, all the big rookies drop off after the first couple months every year. There was no way Laf was going to hold his value at $300-500 raw unless he put up a PPG rookie season. Probably an $8-10k CAD card once graded. If that ding isn't as bas in real life as in the photo, it could be a PSA 7 and worth about $20k.

Thanks! Kills me that the North/South centering is off. Edges are sweet. I found centering way harder to get back then than good edges.

Definitely send that Gretzky to PSA ASAP. I noticed a small ding on the bottom left corner that might stop you from getting a 7, but it should grade at least a 6. That "ding" may not be there in real life, and could be just how the camera is picking up the OPC rough edge.

Any notable Young Guns?

With my boxes of The Cup, DACardWorld gave me 2 free packs of S1 19-20. Pulled a Balcers Clear Cut YG in 1 and a Mikheyev YG Canvas in the other. Pretty nice for 2 random packs.

I need some more advice guys. Is this card worth paying 600$ for? I know its on the poorer end as far as condition but ill never be able to afford a high end one anyways. Im just not comfortable or able to determine on my own if the value is there? It would be for mine and my sons collection and as long as I wouldn't ever lose money on it I don't care to make any either. The vintage cards are much harder to come up with a price I find.

UD has been struggling hard with QC. Artifacts is also a notoriously hated product. I am always amused by the guys on YouTube that complain about how bad the product is year after year and here they are, this year, breaking more boxes. Kinda funny.

Here's a PSA 2 sale from last month:

I imagine that one is probably a PSA 1 based on the condition of the 2:

There are some brands that UD releases that I call "itch scratchers". These brands just allow collectors to scratch the itch to open packs of ANYTHING new, but ultimately these brands have no collectability whatsoever. Black Diamond (both the mid tier in the past and the current premium version), SPx, SPGU, Artifacts, any new UD brand less than 5 years old, etc.

The highly collected brands are UD S1 and S2, SPA, OPC, Ice and surprisingly, MVP. Then some brands have some legitimacy even though they are lightly collected like Ultimate and UD Premier (and OPC Premier when they make it). I'd rather bust 20 cases of SPA over and over than open 20 different cases of UD.

I imagine it's just someone inflating the bids trying to pass it off as legit right? It says reprint but it's a bit hidden in the specs and you could definitely miss it.

1979-80 O-PEE-CHEE WAYNE GRETZKY CARD#18 RP (RC) Possible PSA 10 | eBay

It also says "PSA 10?" multiple times. Don't think you can grade a reprint correct? Unless there was something official.
That seller should just be transparent. Someone is going to buy that and feel duped. They are going to argue it with eBay. eBay will side with the buyer and the seller is back to square one.

Listen up you beautiful card collectors. HERE IS A GUIDE FOR BEGINNERS AND VETS FOR INVESTING (Not Collecting) Hockey Cards.

This is the best advice you will ever get, if you are looking for "VALUE" only.
If you are looking to collect (and not sell) your cards, Ignore this post entirely.
This post is basically a guide to card collecting to buy/sell (Make/Lose) Money.

OK let's get started -
1 - Buying Boxes - Boxes in general right now are extremely inflated, I would honestly stay clear from purchasing any sort of boxes currently.
THAT BEING SAID, If you are new to the hobby, or even a VET, and you wanna open some boxes, I would not dare to open anything but these.

High End - The cup (FOR RPA's)
Mid End - SPA (Focus on 2018/2019) (This gets you Future Watch cards that are very high demand)
Low End - Upper deck Series 1 and 2 (This is where you find Rookie Young Guns, they are the most popular and easiest to sell cards)

I WOULD ABSOLUTELY AVOID ALL OTHER PRODUCTS, Even popular ones like O-pee-chee platinum, artifacts, engraved, synergy, etc.
Even if you get a "good" Card, due to lack of popularity, it will be much harder to sell, Especially if it's a Mid tier prospect.

2 - Buying Singles - The absolute best way to make money currently is find a "Top" Prospect you feel will make noise in the future, that are on CANADIAN TEAMS and Buy as many Ungraded Rookie Young Guns of them as possible.
Never buy at the start of a new set, Usually are inflated, Wait until a player is in a slump before pulling the trigger.
Even injuries drastically reduce a cards price.
Another trick is to watch games constantly, and if a Rookie has a huge night, Buy a ton of them as quick as possible, Usually there is a markup after a huge night (ONLY FOR COMC NOT EBAY, COMC IS INSTANT, EBAY IS NOT!)
Only buy Young guns/Future Watches - You won't hit 100% of the time, some rookies will get worse, some might get better, but this is your best chance by far.
Use judgement how long you wanna keep a player before selling and starting the process again.
My rule of thumb is if it's not a elite prospect, I am looking for 20% gains.

If people enjoyed this guide, I can let you in on a lot more of information, including the massive use of COMC and price checking, etc.

Let me know! I hope you all enjoyed it!

Per eBay's policy, the seller should say in the description that this is an un-authenticated card and being sold as a possible reprint.

Wouldn't a Barkov #/75 constitute a hit? If that's what you mean by out of.....
