That'll be interesting. I don't think Jones is ready to be an AHL starter, Lindberg probably isn't either. Having the two of them tandem is a recipe for disaster.

One of them is probably destined for the ECHL squad.

How is it that Lindberg still had another year of eligibility?

Senior season at UMass. When I checked HockeyDB.com, I mistakenly thought he already played 4 seasons....but they duplicated the 20-21 season.

Oh yeah that'll do it. Weren't all NCAA players also granted an extra year of eligibility anyway because of the covid thing?

To quote TSK: "Boo"

So he just doesn't want to be in this organization then? How far off can the two sides be on an ELC?

Well alright, good riddance.

I wonder what the problem is? Did they tell him he'd be starting in the ECHL, and he balked at that?

He might think there are enough vacancies in the league right now that, combined with the flat cap, he stands a good chance of snagging a backup job right away. Or at least an AHL starter/first call-up role. With Talbot and Kahkonen in Minnesota this team might require more patience than he's got.

There's a major detail being left out of this Lindberg story. Otherwise it makes absolutely no sense. There's nothing to negotiate. If Lindberg doesn't want to play in the Minnesota organizaton, then there's no reason for him to even talk to Guerin. If Lindberg does want to play here, then there's no reason for him not to be already signed.

Maybe the discussion was just for show, so he is eligible to submit that 30-day letter? I honestly didn't know a prospect could submit a 30-day letter to just get out of the organization that drafted them.

There's no "for show" though. A player isn't obligated to sign a contract with the team that drafts him. All he has to do is wait the required amount of time and he can become a UFA. If that is Lindberg's intentions, then it doesn't make sense that he would even discuss a contract with Guerin.

With Jones in front of him, I don't think Lindberg is going to get a fair shake here. Probably also believes he played better than his 7th round status.
