AGREED! Butch needs to stand up, reach in his pants, find his ***** and man the **** up! Not going to bat for your players
earns nothing. The best coaches develop an attitude with his troops: "it's us against the world boys, they aren't going to give us a break and I'm not going to lie down and shut up!" It's something that Don Cherry cultivated with his players, and it almost got them a Stanley Cup.

Judging by the way the team has performed in his tenure (dealing with a shit ton of injuries constantly, making comebacks on a regular basis), I'd say the attitude that Cassidy has developed with his players (which we really can't know exactly how things are) is pretty good :dunno:

Agreed.

Personally, I like to think that if I were coach or GM, I’d be raking the refs over the coals 10-15x a year through the media, but it just doesn’t seem to happen.

I don’t know why, aside from the obvious: fear of retribution.

I do know that if I were part of the players union, I’d push hard for some type of accountability for the refs.

A player accidentally gets his stick up, maybe makes a bad decision and boards a guy or gets his elbow up and he’s subject to fines and/or suspension and anyone with a smart phone knows about it

The stiffs in stripes cost teams games, possibly affecting their earnings and we hear crickets about how they’re held accountable.
The accountability for refs comes in the playoffs. The lower rated refs don’t get playoff games. The refs shorten the bench just as teams do for the playoffs, weeding out the lesser refs round by round.

This is true but sooner or later the players have to think "wtf, we play our hearts out every game, get screwed by the officiating and Butchie takes a dump on us!?!?!"

True.

But they rarely lose their jobs and we hardly ever hear about them being disciplined.

Same crap he pulled in Washington

If the refs pulled that on John Tortorella their ears would be on fire. I'm not complaining about any other aspect of Cassidy's job. He has them at the top of the league but nobody's perfect and IMO anyway, he needs to stand up and make a huge stink when his guys get cheated of a fair chance to compete for the points. In the long run the Bruins will have a top five finish to the season and that's half the battle. The troops at the front lines need to know that their general has their back and is willing to put it on the line when the need arises. Tonight the need arose and he shone the light on his "passengers."

horrendous game, can`t chase the play consistently by falling behind seemingly every game. Cehlarik needs to go, don`t care who they call up, he`s useless, Nordy fine on the 4th line but this team, when healthy, he`s not better than anyone on that line. Bad habits creeping in lately in spite of the pts they piled up. There`s time to fix it and fix it they have to or we`re looking at a 1st round exit playing this style

I know the Frederic line barely touched the ice in the 3rd if at all but this team can`t continue to lean on Bergy and DK`s line, they need to give that line some time to breathe

IMO there's enough info out there for the league to know who the bad apples are. There are a lot of minor league refs out there waiting for their chance(s). I know that the officials have their union but when you pull stuff like what happened tonight someone needs to be taken over the carpet. Nobody, NO ONE is perfect. I **** up, you **** up we all **** up here and there but this nonsense takes place too often for the league to not sit up and take notice. There seems to be no checks and balances, no safety net for bad calls. No way for an official to say "my bad, I screwed up, blew the play dead...nevermind let's have face off and I'll try to do better the next time...

I missed 80% of the game. Got in when the B's got that last horrible penalty. I heard a little of it on the radio but yeah they can not keep relying on Bergy and Co consistently. Let's face it, it all goes back to what the front office did (or didn't) do last off season. There is too much of a talent gap between the first two lines and the lines 3 and 4. That's on Sweeney. The players in/from Providence simply either aren't ready or just are not NHL calibre players. Trent F, Senyshen etc aren't able or ready. Calling up Kampfer was iffy (can't say for sure) and IIRC I believe I heard that Krug was on the ice for 4 goals against? He's a PP specialist, a great PP specialist but he can't be counted on when the going gets rough to shut down the opposition. Gryz is hurt but I think that if he can continue his upward trend of getting better and better hopefully he'll be ready for PP1 duty in the next season or two.

50% of their top 6 is out.

As for the PP specialist myth. Gryz isn't in the same zip code as Krug on the PP.

He isn’t but on a night like this one when Krug is pulling his hot potato routine I’d like to see him get replaced with McAvoy in key offensive situations.

Frankly I’d have sat Krug through the third as well. Not rewarded with power play time after being the primary reason your team dug a 4 goal hole.

Bruins were horrible for half the game. They deserved to be called out after letting in 5 goals in 30 minutes

Hey guys CBJ fan coming in peace!!! I like to read gdt threads to see what the fans of other teams are like because I know how bias some of our fans are so i like to see if other teams fans are pretty fair or really bias and you guys were very respectful so id like to start with that you guys were as fair as anyone could expect with how you talked about our players or how you talked about the refs so again as a fan I appreciate that. Want to say great heart by you guys and good luck this weekend you have a great shot again because we play the Canes the night before which we might find to he the more important game and go hard there and you might get Korpisalo instead of Bob.

I have to say I was disappointed in your guys reaction to the McAvoy/Bread fight though that was a straight rock em sock em both landing dead even fight and the Bs always being known as a tough group and the CBJ especially under Torts have always been blue collar hard hitting so I was hoping to see praise for Bread actually fighting AND even switched hands and was throwing upper cuts which lets be honest do you ever see that happening with Crosby? McAvoy landed some great shots though and Im jealous you guys landed him. I wanted him so bad that draft year. I wanted to slide down and draft keller or PLD then use a pick we acquired to slide down for McAvoy but we just straight took PLD thankfully and didn't miss out. IMO McAvoy is the #2 U25 D in the league behind Jones. I used to have Werenski ahead of him which stat wise is fair but Z has had some lapses in D this year and is in his own head. McAvoy has(well had when Inwatches him a lot idk if he still does you guys can tell me) some of the best stick work on D I have seen in a long time. It is always in the perfect spot in passing lanes or just getting it reached out enough to break up a play or stop a stretch pass and while hitting and body position is important what the kid can do just with his stick in the lanes is a small technical thing I love about his game.

Also I wanted to let you guys know because it looked like only 2 people caught it on your 4th goal we didnt have our team out there and ready they dropped the puck before our 3rd forward got out their thats why Torts was confused and furious and why Werenski was shrugging at the net because it wasnt supposed to be dropped yet. That goal moved the momentum so far you came insanely close to at least getting a point on that. Maybe that will make you feel a little better about what you feel was the bad call. Also us being on the Pp is q curse for us we are the worst pp in the league basically and have given up towards the most shortiesbso we were also mad at the call haha.

Anyways because the cbj board is melting down because they think we have already missed the playoffs and if a mirical happens and we make it against all odds its been determined by the board we will be swept it was nice to enjoy the game from your eyes. I loved reading your thoughts on Anderson he is so underrated on this site. People say he isnt fast or has no history of 20 or more goals so he sucks. But you saw the speed and he had 18 as a rookie with no pp time and never played higher then 3rd line and his next year hit 18 or 19 missing about 20 games. And now has 23 so people are going to start noticing so I enjoyed your opinions.

Ill be back to read saturday good luck, take care, and see you all soon!!!

Can't get too upset at this one as once again we are missing several key players, but also this helps to keep CBJ ahead of the habs, so if we have to lose any games better to have it happen against the Blue Jackets.
