Exactly. Stop overusing Lehtera and make the second unit Weal, Filppula, Konecny, Provorov, and Sanheim.

The fact that we don't have Provy AND Sanheim on the 2nd PP speaks volumes of Hak. I know Knoblauch has the PP system going, but this is on Hak for the personnel being used for the PP. Lehtera is so f***ing bad. Jesus tits...

it actually makes a lot of sense. Why is lehtera there? Would you say he is a placeholder for Patrick? Because that is all he is. If you change up the pp, what will you do when patrick is healthy?

Change it again...?

Or Patrick can replace Filppula.

There you go. Two simple solutions in 10 seconds and I'm not even being paid to come up with this.

but you're assuming he knew how long patrick would be out. first off, you practice a pp system all season, but because 1 guy goes down, does not mean you change it up just to appease the fans. yeah it sucks patrick is out but to revamp the 2nd unit just cause we want sanheim in there make zero sense.

I'd rather have Sanheim stand in front of the net. He already deflected one into his own net this year.

I edited that post.

Change the PP system to what I said. Then when Patrick is back he can replace a Filppula. Then they can practice that PP setup for the rest of the year and beyond.

Keeping Sanheim off the PP, short- or long-term, is an idiotic waste of his talent.

but the system is already in place of a 4 forward 1 dman system. When is the last time you have seen a team change up their pp system ( not personnel) in the middle of the season?

It's not set in stone.. it can be changed. It's not like they're playing awesome and are afraid to mess it up. They have nothing to lose and a lot to gain.

Plus, it's their own fault for not having this as the setup from the start of the year. It was obvious then, just like it's obvious now.

It's not like the 1st and 2nd unit have to match.

The problem with Hakstol is that he hasn't been fired anywhere yet. He is coaching like a guy who has a long leash and a lot of job security. This most likely goes back to a tight relationship with Hextall, and confirms they are on the same page with regards to lineup and roster decisions. If they are both happy with slow cooking prospects in exchange for some short term pain, then the playing of useless vets over eager rookies will continue.

Can anyone estimate how many more games this team could/possibly have won if the 2nd/3rd lines had average league scoring? Sometimes is terribly wrong there and it isn't like the talent besides Weise/Lehtera is piss poor.

Well, that's actually the right strategy against the Wild, as long as big bodies are crashing the net and setting up screens.
But they were passing a lot this season, too much, trying to set up good shots.

It's another year where the offensive philosophy is funnel pucks to the D who just blindly rip shots and maybe we'll get a bounce.

Then when we don't get the bounces, we will just blame that for that loss, rather than their entire approach to playing hockey.

yup, what a great way to utilize our talented forwards.
It'd be a better plan if we fast forward into the future when we potentially have Provorov, Ghost, Sanheim, and Myers on the team, instead of the handful of offensive black holes we currently have on D.

There's a reason Ghost kept passing to Manning yesterday. He was ALL ALONE because they know they don't need to respect his shot.

We have more offensive black holes in the forwards than on the defense. It's one ES goal in 18 games now for the Honey Bees. Hagg getting 17 minutes at ES and Sanheim getting 15 isn't why the entire bottom 9 are struggling to put the puck in the net.

Actually, Manning has a pretty good shot, problem was where were the big bodies crashing the net, setting up screens, putting in rebounds. Simmonds USED to be that guy, no one else is.
