Its Finland. How long can the prison sentence really be?

Per news reports Lehtera has denied everything. It means unless there's evidence or someone talks on him he won't get charged.

If he is involved in import and / or distribution, it depends on the amount. Up to half a gram you'll get a fine and up to two kilos gives 5-7 years of imprisonment. The larger the amounts, the higher the possibility you have to serve your sentence in jail.

Coke is for personal use up to four grams. For that there's only fine penalty. You won't go to jail for use but can get probation by admitting to exact amounts for long periods of time (e.g. use of one gram a week for a year becomes possession and use of 52 grams due your own statement).

Is that enough to terminate his contract?

On a serious note, it's possible. US immigration could bar him from entering the country or yank his work visa.

INA: ACT 212 - GENERAL CLASSES OF ALIENS INELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE VISAS AND INELIGIBLE FOR ADMISSION; WAIVERS OF INADMISSIBILITY

(A) Conviction of certain crimes.-
(i) In general.-Except as provided in clause (ii), any alien convicted of, or who admits having committed, or who admits committing acts which constitute the essential elements of-
(I) a crime involving moral turpitude (other than a purely political offense) or an attempt or conspiracy to commit such a crime, or
(II) a violation of (or a conspiracy or attempt to violate) any law or regulation of a State, the United States, or a foreign country relating to a controlled substance (as defined in section 102 of the Controlled Substances Act (21 U.S.C. 802)), is inadmissible.

INA: ACT 212 - GENERAL CLASSES OF ALIENS INELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE VISAS AND INELIGIBLE FOR ADMISSION; WAIVERS OF INADMISSIBILITY | USCIS

8 U.S. Code § 1182 - Inadmissible aliens

Please note that admissions are enough by themselves even if no criminal arrests ever occur. Mere personal use possession is enough.

Examples: Nigella Lawson lost her work visa over mere admissions. Kate Moss' US modeling career ended for 12+ years over a tabloid photo. neither had any criminal history.

Is that enough to terminate his contract?

On top of what Stimpy says there, even closer from home there is the Standard Player's Contract (Exhibit 1 of the CBA):

2 The Player further agrees

(e) to conduct himself on and off the rink according to the highest standards of
honesty, morality, fair play and sportsmanship, and to refrain from conduct detrimental to the best interest of the Club, the League or professional hockey generally.

and

14. The Club may also terminate this SPC upon written notice to the Player (but only after
obtaining Waivers from all other Clubs) if the Player shall at any time:

(a) fail, refuse, or neglect to obey the Club's rules governing training and conduct of
Players, if such failure, refusal or neglect should constitute a material breach of this SPC.

(b) fail, refuse or neglect to render his services hereunder or in any other manner
materially breach this SPC.

In the event of termination under Paragraph 14(a) or (b) the Player shall only be entitled
to compensation due to him to the earlier of the date such notice is personally delivered to him or the date such notice is e-mailed to him.

In the event this SPC is terminated by the Club while the Player is "away" with the Club
for the purpose of playing games the installment then falling due shall be paid on the first weekday after the return "home" of the Club.

But I don't know if there's some substance abuse protocols and treatment that NHLPA might insist to be done instead of termination in case of plain drug use.

Fair point but Jung Ho- Kang of the MLB Pirates had his visa revoked for one season due to a DUI but it was renewed without incident the next year.

Drunk driving by itself is treated much more leniently under the statutes. The statutes specifically address DUIs.

If Lehtera is found to have dealt drugs, the Flyers can save themselves $5m by terminating his sorry ass.
