Brodie and Gardiner are more of the same if what we already have and don’t need more of . They are better versions of Butchet and Vatanen but Deviks need a strong psyical D minded defender

Gardiner completely outclasses Butcher and Vatanen. Brining in Gardiner and trying to package Vatanen for forward help is the way to go

dude this is heinous. And this is coming from someone who has been critical of this place overvaluing Kreider in general.

you really need to change the way you value trades

Wait, is Smith a useful defenseman? Because I saw speculation that he could be bought out. If Smith is waiver-wire level trash, then the Devils essentially pay $13 million for a single year of Chris Kreider. Even if the Devils bought him out that's still $9.5 million for 1 year of Kreider.

None of this matters anyway, the Rangers wouldn't trade Kreider to the Devils.

There was that questionable rumor a couple weeks ago that the Bruins and Devils had been talking about a David Backes deal. Bruins would open up space for McAvoy/Carlo, but at a cost of attaching a high pick to dump the remaining two years of Backes' contract.

Backes to the Devils does make a lot of sense.

Backes cap hit is irrelevant to the Devils with how much cap room they have. Devils count real dollars and Backes is owed 5M over the next two seasons which at that price he would be a good pick up to fill a bottom 6 role.

Devils could also pick up an extra asset like a pick or quality prospect as well

Yea no. Backes on two years is madness. One, sure, with an asset to come along- but two no way. We have enough bottom six guys.

Goalie maybe.

Absolutely not - they're set with Schneider and Blackwood in a split situation.

Schneider played well down the stretch and in the WC. His injury had a long recovery time and appears to be behind his struggles, but we'll see. Blackwood also played very well behind an injury depleted team last season.

Subban-Severson
New D-Butcher

Carrick
Mueller

Vatanen traded. To many short D's on the roster.

Ya'll want Jeff Carter?
Not a Devils fan, but what do you think the cost for Carter @ 50% might be? I have to think due to his age, having 3 years left, missing most of 2017-18 and struggling in 2018-19 would make him very hard to trade without a decent amount of retention (or salary coming back)

Yikes. Why wouldn't you sign someone like Eric Fehr for almost league minimum and try to get a bigger fish? Fehr had 5 less points than Backes in 2 more games...

No way it happens, the second year is a killer. Devils have to sign Hall (hopefully), Hischier, and Bratt next offseason. That's probably $22-25 million AAV. They do not need Backes's $6 million clogging up their cap.

I hope Shero is past the point now if taking garbage for picks. Hopefully is now geared toward trying another Subban like acquisition or a team needing to lose a top 6 winger or top 4 LD due to cap crunch . None of the crap player for a 2nd or 3rd round pick stuff .
Ownership and Shero saying they are not done IMO means a top 6 winger and /or LD is still on its way ( hopefully )
