Well, resigning 2 players well before free agency. I guess Lou means business.

More like Lou may have FINALLY woken up and got with the program : There is no more true loyalty in the NHL. You need to re-sign your own guys and not LET THEM make Free Agency.

(at least that's what I'm hoping this is what it is from him) :dunno:

He got the two easy ones done. Now get Fayne signed and Schneider an extension past this year as far as re-ups go.

And of course moving Sal out and making a trade for help up front.

either that or jagr and Zid were signed so quickly BECAUSE of organizational loyalty. they wanted to come back so they werent dicking around. Faynes agent may say the Devils havent spoke to them, but surely his interests lie in Fayne hitting FA and getting the best market price possible which may be what Fayne wants too *shrug*

This is why I hate Agents.

Let him out up in space somewhere. He'll have plenty of company with bernier and poni.

Isn't Bryzgalov out there as well? :sarcasm:

You don't think they still can make a good fourth line? I don't understand why people want them off the team when they are the least of their problems. Devils didn't miss the playoffs because the fourth line played like a fourth line. I mean, how much salary do you want to put into a fourth line? It should be going towards replacing guys like Ryder. Putting a guy like Josefson on the fourth line is fine, but he isn't an upgrade and he's likely to get injured.

He's an upgrade over Bernier.

We don't have another Dman that can provide the offense we do, at least not certainly. I really think Gelinas is going to grow very well this year but if he doesn't we can't afford to have zero offensive threat on the blue line. If anything, let's assume Gelly grows as we hope he does, that would give us a trade chip in Zids. Even if he only fetches a 2ndor 3rd, then it's still something more than we have. I really have no issue with this with it being only a 1 year deal. As for Jagr, you can't tell me his production isn't worth his salary. Given our lack of offensive talent, it's not like he's stealing a roster spot from someone more capable than him. Besides, we all must remember Jagr isn't human and doesn't age

That's nearly what I said to another poster on here word for word. Best case is that Gelinas improves his defense and his offense takes over making Zid tradable. We could definitely get a higher pick like that close to the deadline. I want to try to add some guys on short contracts to have them as deadline trade bait.

Hopefully this means Lou plans on having an active July 1st.

Please just no Marty or Bernier. Gio I can care less either way.

Gointa has delivered nothing, Pete loves him because he has energy but he produces nothing like Bernier no production. We need an effective fourth line to add to the less effectiive 1, 2, and 3rd line.
I will pay extra to have a 4th liine that can do both defense and offense.

As long as Pete is the coach and he plays the 4th line players out of position we must remove the temptation. Giond and Bernier must go. Besides the deliver nothing towards the offense. Cheap isn't always the solution, Lou has proved that the past few years.

I think Fayne's getting slightly overrated here based on 2012 and his time with Greene. Would he be nice to keep, sure. Is he a neccesary being? No, especially going forward with the D the way it is. He doesn't skate particularly well, doesn't move the puck and isn't very physical so he really has to be near flawless in his own end to be an asset.

Fayne's skating is fine.

he is a 6'3'' top 4 DMan that can skate and is very good at what he does. those do not grow on trees and you don't let those kinds of players walk out the door.

Josefson is better than all 3 of CBGB.

I read 'those types of players don't grow on trees' about Urbom too.

not from me, you didn't...I've said for about 3 years now that Urbom would never be a part of this organization

and you cannot really compare what they've both accomplished.

Not if it means he is going to play at defense.

look, I'm not Zidlicky's biggest fan either but the fact of the matter is we don't have anyone on this team that can provide what he does. Maybe Gelinas can, but we're never going to know because Pete won't give him a fair shot.

its a 1 year deal for not really that much money. its hard to complain about this deal in a vacuum as Zids isn't taking any of the young guys' roster spots. its guys like Harrold, Salvador, and Volchenkov that are.

Zidlicky's defensive woes get way overstated. He's not as bad as a couple of our 'defensive' defensemen. His biggest problem defensively is actually more his hooking/minor penalties.

Zids was our first 40 point defenseman since Rafalski. On a team that is as offensively challenged as we are we need that kind of production. Gelinas has the potential to replace Zids, but he's not there yet. I'd rather have a proven player in that role and let Gelinas work on his all-around game. If Gelinas can improve his defensive positioning this year, then we can let Zids walk next summer and Gelinas can take over.
