I think that unless the deal is too good, Ray will simply let Lovejoy run out his contract here out of respect since it doesn’t sound like he wants to uproot.

Imagine the same would have happened with Boyle, but Ray was actually able to get a solid return.

God I'd hate that, everyone would just assume he wasn't traded because he had no value, or rip Shero if they thought he did. I can't imagine Lovejoy would want to finish the season here rather than go on a contender for the stretch drive but maybe they can work something out where he goes to LI or another East team.

He has said he is happy here.

Boyle said he didn’t want to be traded either. Guys aren’t racing for the door like people on here are.

If the return is like a 4th. Ray might not do it. Legs be real. Other teams have their own LJs to sell too. He isn’t some rare commodity.

Also just because the market is thin, doesn’t mean teams will suddenly send out top 100 picks for scraps. Some of the hate is ridiculous, but he really doesn’t add a lot to a contending team.

You could get creative and trade a 4th and LJ for a second. Something similar would be a first rounder for Mojo and 2nd that becomes a 3rd if the acquiring team wins a round in the playoffs.

Ray will have done masterful work if we go into the draft with two 1sts and two 2nds for guys on expiring contracts that didn't cost an arm and a leg to get in the first place.

That would be pretty impressive. Hopefully Ray can bank some trade capital for something big we never saw coming. Maybe he nabs more picks and swings for the fences on draft day for a top D or C. Of course some of that will depend on where potential trade partners see themselves heading into next year.

6th rounder or bust!!!! :sarcasm:

Honestly, I believe LJ has value, probably in the 4th round range. It's standard operating procedure for many contenders to increase their defensive depth in preparation for the playoffs. He may be particularly enticing to teams with advanced stats departments, since his numbers have been solid since moving to 3rd pairing. Being a cup winner is definitely huge for some teams too. I don't, however, expect a deal to happen until the deadline, after which teams can carry an extra D because they no longer have a roster limit.

Also, it's a business, so if a trade is there, Ray's gotta pull the trigger regardless of what the player wants. Perhaps he would consider more local teams to help out LJ. I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up on the Isles. Grabbing a D like LJ at the deadline is a very Lou move, and wouldn't require him to uproot too badly. Toronto's been rumored to be looking for a depth LHD too.

I think Lovejoy will get traded.

Experienced winner, physical, good guy, not too expensive and nice injury insurance as a 6/7 on serious teams. I’d also guess that most scouts view our individual players with an asterisk based on horrific team play.

As much as I didn’t think the Boyle and Lovejoy signings fit stylistically, Shero was savvy in understanding their tradability years ahead. Teams want quality people.

If Shero can get a pick for Lovejoy, that was a good deal.
I'm 100 percent sure Shero can get a pick for Lovejoy. He's a good third pairing dman, but, what's more important, dmen options are just really poor this trade deadline. The best ones are Jensen, Lovejoy, McQuaid and Edler, and there have been some discussions that the Canucks are going resign with Edler.

It's probably a 3rd for Lovejoy or something like that.

Wow... that's... umm... Yeah.
Those are the UFAs that are available. Of course some team can make a hockey trade, where they get a dman with a term. The Lighning, for instance, traded McDonagh and Miller for Namestnikov, Howden, Hajek and a 1st (the Rangers drafted Nils Lundqvist) last season.

Id sign Johansson if he played like that all the time (I dont mean PPG pace but his aggressiveness), however I think its a slight mirage.

Could be he is at his healthiest but we will see... Im still mostly in favor of moving him because he is exactly what we already have but if they signed him and he played like tonight more regularly... Id like it.

his play through the neutral zone is a weapon for teams he should return a first round pick

Elias looks more like Brian Boyle.
He does look like Boyle. I'm trading to think of who Dano looks like, but it's almost like a goatee'd version of someone who I can't think of. I thought his Ghostbuster bobblehead looked more like Samuel L Jackson than anything.

Chico is DEFINITELY Keith Hernandez though.

I’m on the re-sign Johansson wagon now. I feel like this is the first time we have seen Johansson fully healthy and comfortable and it is showing. This is the player Ray aquired. The guy who can hit 50 pts and help out on zone entries. If he wants to stay, give him an extension. Having a veteran Swede forward is invaluable since we have Bratt and with Boqvist and Zetterlund in the pipeline.

I’m on the fence. He’s been great lately but still, he turns the puck over more than the average player
