Good luck to Seids on his future and thanks for the cup. I however am breathing a big sigh of relief now as this was one of the major things that had to change this summer.

There has to be something else. If they did this just to overpay Torey Krug, it's a horrible move.

It's not just that. He's no better than a bottom pairing dman plus penalty killing. You can't pay a bottom pairing guy $4m per year. And thanks to recent signings of some of the other RFA dmen, you have a pretty good idea of what Krug is going to get.

So they weren't Cap spenders that last couple of years?

math aint working for me.

I thought they weren't cap spenders last season? Might be wrong.

Also, I was under the impression if they put Kelly on IR they would have had more cap space.

The real question is: what is all this cap space going to be used for? When we see that, we can determine whether this was a necessary move.

I disagree. It was a necessary transaction. Seidenberg couldn't adequately do the job he was signed for anymore. I loved the guy and respect the damn hell out of him but we needed his cap hit off our books.

Additionalyl, how do you explain retaining Looch salary?

I mean if no playoffs = no spending or a reduction. They could have just kept him or traded him for pucks with no retention.

Or burying Rinaldo? Doesn't count against the Cap but it does still come from JJ's wallet.

I can keep going.

I want to see numbers based on the assertion. How much did JJ lose directly (playoffs are shared dough) and what was the end result of that on spending on the team.

I have no issue with discussions. I have issue with things that are stated as fact well, without the facts.

If the facts are there I'll be the first person to tip my cap.

another huge part of our 2011 team gone. not much left from that great run.

Sad to see a lot of the those guys gone, but giving contracts to guys from that 2011 team that they didn't deserve got the Bruins in the cap crunch last year and year before

Even now, is he worse than Miller/McQuaid?

Yes. He is worse.

Thanks for everything's Seids, especially 2011 but injuries have derailed what could have been.

He was to slow and was now a PK specialist and a liability 5 on 5 even against opposing team lower lines.

Don't know if I like the buyout route ( would have preferred a trade with money retained or for an as bad contract at F) but it saves money the next two years.

Let's now see what Sweeney does with it...

Chara

Julien and Essensa

That's it.

Hard to believe that's all that is left of a roster and coaching staff that won that cup just 5 years ago.

crazy. In 2011 I would have thought in 2016 there would be a big part of the core still here. Man did things change fast.

Sad to see him go, but it was time. His play had deteriorated so quickly and so severely these past couple of years, he didn't look like the same guy. For my money, he was one of the best #2 defensemen in the league during his prime. Now let's trade McQuaid and really start revamping this defense.

Should have let McQuaid go last year, and once they signed him definitely should have let Miller go this year, then taken your lumps for one more year with Seidenberg, and bought him out next year (maybe the even has a nice start to the season and you can move him, best case scenario).

I wanted him moved, but this was the only option I didn't want them to use.

Even more crazy to me is how many of that team are out of the league, on their way out (Ference) or retired.

Horton
Recchi
Peverly
Ryder
Paille
Ference
Kaberle
Hnidy
Thomas

Who knows what happens to Seids and Kelly this summer.

I'd like to move McQuaid too, having him and Miller is redundant. Should have let McQ walk last year year or let Kevan Miller walk this year. Money aside, i'd take Seids over Quiader. Both are 3rd pairing guys, but Seids makes twice as much so there it is

You'd have to assume they're going to USE the cap space, right? Or is to open up a spot for a youngin?

I guess we'll see.

Need to free money to re-sign Kelly Lol.
Seriously though, we should expect something good to come of this buy-out. Will we ?
I have learned not to get my hopes up yet still very interesting :welcome:Trouba !!!

Meh, at his age he just wasnt able to recover from that last injury.

I dont mind this, but as you say, we are left with 2 marginal second pair defenseman in Miller/Mcquaid that probbaly should've been moved. The defense was thin, now is ultra super hiper paper thin.

They must be really really high on some of those kids.

BRUINS BUYING OUT DENNIS SEIDENBERG SHOULD HAVE BEEN LAST RESORT
The better way to have jettisoned Seidenberg would have been to do so via trade, with the Bruins retaining half his salary. That way, the Bruins would face cap charges of $2 million the next two seasons, but the bleeding would stop there. Instead, the Bruins will have over $1 million of dead money on the books in seasons in which they’ll hope to be more of contenders than they are presently.

Who's to say the buyout wasn't the last resort? I don't think anyone disagrees that the best outcome for the Bruins would have been trading Seids and retaining half his salary. The question is: Which team wants to acquire Seids and carry the remaining $2.25 million price tag?
