Well...it ain't like the A's haven't moved before. Still the best uniforms, color scheme, and mascot in baseball.
If they want a personality who was a great player... they need to target Roy. He has other ambitions, but he'd make every broadcast must see TV.
How many Quebecois do you see in media outside of Montreal? I can think of Biron in Buffalo, and that's about it. And his accent is flatter than Roy's.I was thinking the exact same thing when the Gretzky news first popped up. It must be a no from Roy's side because he still wants to manage/coach. I can't imagine the big networks in Canada or even the US willingly passing on him.
ESPN should be all over it and since it isn't a broadcast company there really are no language enforcements per se other than what the company is okay being associated with. I'd imagine they'd be fine with the few expletives as long as they aren't approaching socially unacceptable. In fact, it might increase ratings in the younger demographic that find unfiltered to be funny or more importantly, who find his passion for the game contagious. How many Quebecois do you see in media outside of Montreal? I'm not saying I personally view that as an issue, but broadcasters might.
They might also be wary of him being himself. The guy isn't known for having a filter.
TNT should put Barkley on hockey broadcasts with Wayne. That'll bring his personality right out.
It’s going to be terrible. 99 is super boring, I don’t expect insights or interesting stories. They're making comparisons between Wayne Gretzky and Charles Barkley. Ummmmm...hey I love The Great One as much as the next guy, and his SNL hosting gig remains an underrated gem, but are they seriously expecting him to show a boatload of personality because...have they met Wayne?
Should have just let them move here in ‘77.A's will end up in Vegas or Nashville.
I mean ESPN hired Stephen A. Smith and he's like the face of their franchise. How many Quebecois do you see in media outside of Montreal? I can think of Biron in Buffalo, and that's about it. And his accent is flatter than Roy's.

Haha. No. I get it. And of course ESPN would court controversy for ratings - that's the schtick of every lazy sports commentator - but I mean his lack of filter could be "can't go on TV" level. Not just some some sass and some swears.
Roy would likely be great in the studio. Just depends on what he’d like to do. Unlike Brett Hull, who was an unmitigated disaster, he’d do the work and preparation necessary for the job. Also, while he liked to talk, I don’t ever remember him crossing the line in any egregious sense.
But like I said, it would depend on if he wants to do it. At present he really wants another shot at coaching and/or running an NHL franchise. I really hope he gets the Habs gig but who knows.
I'm not sure Brett Hull is qualified to do anything other than shoot a puck and drink beer.

Roy's English is not great (I'd even say surprisingly bad considering how long he's been in the NHL). I don't think it would work for that reason alone...and I say this as a French Canadian whose English is pretty bad as well.
It's fine for an interview here and there but not good enough to work on the show.
Even better, he's allowing the blood vessels in his neck, along with his skintone's red-shift to aid his bad english explainging why JR is a joke and should never have been allowed near a microphone in the first place. And it as at that moment the door was open to another network to step in.Roy's English is not great (I'd even say surprisingly bad considering how long he's been in the NHL). I forget which thread this discussion was going on in the other day, but this seems as appropriate a place as any to post it.
I present to you: Moser Bingo.
