Shh. Don't say that second part too loudly, because as everyone knows Colorado is the non-dirtiest, best team west of the Mississippi River.
That is a really good question as the deal would likely be made after the season before the expansion draft. Maybe a 2nd and a b prospect?
What the Aves could use is Bertuzzi. Maybe Graves and Newport for Bertuzzi and a pick?
Detroit gets a highly touted former first round pick C who still has value and a second pairing D locked up to a fair contract.
Aves get a physical forward who would be a fan favourite and maybe a third rounder to replenish a pick lost when trading for Toews.

Agreed; it was a pretty solid deal and pushes Colorado's defense into the top 10 depending.

Smart on both sides. Flat cap and he is with a team who had room to sign him. Sometimes guys don’t mesh with a new team so best to get the extension now.great contract and signing. the AVS will be better
I think he will play great in their system but it's pretty hard to get point totals like that without PP1 time and he isn't going to beat Makar out for that spot.Toews is going to wreck behind the forwards in Colorado

I didn't 'sneak' Minnesota in there. They absolutely do have a better defense than Colorado. They have at least 3 guys, if not 4 guys, that can be top pairing.
Not really sure what's so funny about it. Suter and Spurgeon are certainly top pairing defenseman while Dumba and Brodin are excellent second pairing defensemen that could probably play first pairing in a lot of situations or on a bunch of teams. This is the funniest thing I’ve read in a really long time.
If Minny's D core is so great why did they flop the last 2 seasons with that "top 4 d that can all be on the top pair"Not really sure what's so funny about it. All four of them are better or arguably better than Toews and Graves.
Personally would rather have Colorado's D because they're significantly younger but Minny's D is strong

"+1", "This", etc.Lack of offensive talent? Mediocre goaltending? The D is easily the best part of their roster.
If you mean Newbook then yes that is a serious offer Detroit should consider.
Byram will be better than any LHD we have...Because the Top 4 LHD is set up long term already, and multiple other holes in the lineup exist beyond this year.
An ElC forward for example would be much more important in 2 years time then Byram as the 3rd LD would be.
Top 4 RHD on an ELC would probably be the most important roster piece we could add. Byram is turning more and more into a luxury piece for us rather than a need.

What’s funny is that ONE of those four names is a top pairing D. Minnesota doesn’t have four top pairing D. I didn’t say their defense was terrible. It’s just laughable to say they have 4 D that are top pairing. That’s just silly. They have a fine top 4, but let’s not act like Dumba and Brodin are anything other than 2nd pairing. Come on now.
