Kap was projected at 41 ES points (7 points in 14 games while Matthews injured). Justin Williams had 39 last year. So he is a Williams-calibre winger. Not worth anything close to Pesce. We cracked the case.

Justin Williams is 37 and definitely seen his best days already, Kapanen is 22 with his best days in front of him.
Sorry I guess you didn't crack the case Inspector Clouseau.

Honest question Canes fans....what's the ask on Faulk? If we bring him in we can trade Gardiner at the deadline.

0.5 even strength points per game is very very good. 1st line caliber.

Never said it wasn’t good production. Just commenting on the post that he was “over a ppg without Matthews”

Age 21:

Tarasenko: 38gms, 13:25 (1:47pp), 8gls (3pp), 19pts (5pp) --- 82gms, 17gls (6pp), 41pts (11pp)
Kapanen: 38gms, 11:15 (0:01pp), 7gls (0pp), 9pts (0pp) ------ 82gms, 15gls (0pp), 19pts (0pp)

Age 22:

Tarasenko: 64gms, 15:10 (1:40pp), 21gls (5pp), 43pts (7pp) --- 82gms, 27gls (6pp), 55pts (9pp)
Kapanen: 33gms, 16:20 (0:36pp), 12gls (0pp), 22pts (0pp) ----- 82gms, 30gls (0pp), 55pts (0pp)

I'm curious, who were Tarasenko's most common linemates during his age 22 season?

Personally, I think the Canes would "strike out" if they traded for Kapanen.

Meanwhile, the Pesce for Nylander trade previously discussed would've been a "home run."

Kapanen may have the speed to steal 50 bases this year, but doesn't offer much else that does it for me. Pesce's a 3 tool guy, but doesn't offer much in the batter's box.

"Baseball."

Perhaps Toronto would be interested in Teravainen, after watching another TT skip town this winter?

You do realize that when TT hit 60+ points last year, Aho wasn't his center, right? They both played wing so your argument really isn't an argument. KK fastest player on the Canes. Yes. Highest scorer? Please. He's not going to outscore Aho. KK best PKer? Laughable and shows you don't know you kills penalties for the Canes.
You do realize that most of his points came playing with Aho and on the PP right? You do realize I said highest goal scorer right? Outside of the offensive black hole defensive Center that is staal, KK would be your best pk’ing Forward.

No, he’s not garbage. He’s just not what we need. Go ahead and throw a several more million (that you don’t have) at the guy. We’ll happily keep our guys and continue to draft and develop. We’ll get BACK to the promised land without tanking for a generational talent. :)
Yeah, it shows.

Yeah, it shows.

It really does. We’re much better off today than we’ve been at any point this decade. Our farm team is #1 in the AHL and is stacked with young talent. We’ve got two franchise players in Aho and Svech, and a defense that most teams would kill for (hence the gajillion offers we see here everyday). Efforts to address the goalie situation have failed miserably (thanks Darling!), but I am certain they will try again next offseason to fix it. Finally, we have a new owner that is passionate about winning and stated he is willing to spend (just not for the sake of spending).

Although the games can sometimes be difficult to watch, we’re pretty psyched about the future.

The point was centers carrying wingers so you're still off base. Yes, Aho will score more goals than Kapanen, why the confusion? Funny too how now you've moved the goal posts on the Canes PK. Just not far enough. McGinn, Foegle and Martinook (heard of any of them?) are all better PKers than KK.

Hope that helps. o_O

PK is totally a need for Carolina, too. All the way down at 12th.

If only we had an elite penalty killer like Kapanen, we could be at 18th like Toronto.

why would you even bother saying this? do you think anyone thinks you actually know which of these guys is a better PKer than the other?

At least with kappy, we have some objective evidence that he's pretty great on the PK. There's 4 leafs forwards that get significant PK time - Hyman, Brown, Lindholm, Kapanen. Now Kappy is generally on the 2nd PK unit, but there's not a huge difference between the two units in general, and Kappy's defensive numbers on the PK are easily the best:

zone/score adjusted:

Kappy: 42.9ca/60, 1.97xga/60, 1.72ga/60
Brown: 52.7ca/60, 2.44xga/60, 2.47ga/60
Hyman: 57.7ca/60, 2.51xga/60, 2.55ga/60
Lindholm: 53.4ca/60, 2.73xga/60, 3.97ga/60

no adjustments:

Kappy: 84.5ca/60, 5.70xga/60, 4.83ga/60
Brown: 105.6ca/60, 6.96xga/60, 7.04ga/60
Hyman: 120.8ca/60, 7.43xga/60, 7.71ga/60
Lindholm: 107.5ca/60, 7.85xga/60, 11.26ga/60

Now we can only learn so much from PK stats, but Kappy is such a big jump up from the others that it's hard to ignore - especially since his main PK partner Lindholm is easily he worst of the 4.

And looking back the previous year's numbers seem to tell a similar story.

The objective evidence suggests Kappy is a pretty terrific PKer.

Why do you have to make stuff up to try and make Kapanen look worse?

He's got potential sure but he hasn't shown that in his rookie year, on pace for 44 points. Other similarly touted wingers in their 18 year old seasons: Hall - 42 in 65, on pace for 53 points, Laine - 64 points, etc... even guys like Tkachuk who weren't known as offensive stars put up 48 points in their rookie season.

he is starting to heat up though. very clear growth between games 1-9, 10-19, 21-now. he has finally figured out what works at this level.
