Bwaahahahahahahahaha.
I'm not sure where you got that explanation for stick flex and how it was to blame for Lucic’s woes last season? I think it’s a little off base?
There is no good or bad flex. The lower the number of the flex on the stick, the MORE flexible it is. So, a stick with a 65 flex bends easier than a stick with an 85 flex.
Players choose the flex of their sticks based on personal preference, but the general rule of thumb is that the flex of a stick should be half the player’s body weight. My son, who is a string bean, weighs 110 pounds, so for him to get anything out of a composite stick, he needs a low flex (bends easy). I have kind of a hard time finding him a 55 flex, but fortunately CCM makes a Super Tack stick in that number.
Lucic probably weighs 230-240, so the average flex for one of his sticks should be around 115-120. If he hurt his wrists, one would assume that he would have to switch to a lower flex (more flexible) stick in order to get more bend with less stress on his wrists? The only way that it would affect his play to such a large degree would be if he dropped down to some ridiculously low flex for a guy his size (70?). If he had to go to a stick with a flex that low, just to shoot, he shouldn’t be on the ice.
Also, the flex of a stick does not “make or break” an NHL player, or elevate their shots to NHL caliber. Choosing the right flex can help a player perform his best, but it’s not going to give a guy who doesn’t have an NHL caliber shot an NHL caliber shot.
I’m calling BS on the stick being Looch’s downfall.
just repeating what the guys here in Edmonton are saying... I remember when brian rolston went from a pretty crappy bottom guy on a team to an overnight 40 goals scorer. derek sanderson started talking about how it was all due to the new sticks he and glen murray were using.
I was like... really? sticks make a difference?
few nights ago mark stone or matt duchesne switched sticks and used ryan ellis stick... scored a couple goals. I had to watch the Ottawa feed for the bruins game and had to listen to how the stick curve is so important... how these guys start using a stick model as kids and its not right for them and they need to experiment with more sticks
when loui debrusk was talking about lucics flex... he said because he was a fighter his wrist couldn't handle the flex too he said a stiff stick is hard to pass with... hard to shoot with. you get used to the snap and when you have to change it effects you
ive never played competitive hockey so I don't know crap... just sharing what these guys who do know are saying
never hurts to listen to guys talk about this stuff who do know what they are talking about I guess
