Having 8 going in is a good strategy so we don't have to waste a 3rd on a rental again. Plus Gryz can go downs

Call me crazy but I would rather trade for a winger that’s going to play everyday than have two 3rd pairing quality defenders sit every game and combine for 45-55 games played this year All because at some point we may need that added depth at some point.

Especially when if that situation arises we can just make a trade like we did for Holden last year if push comes to shove.

Considering Gryz easily proved himself as an every day player, having $5.5 million in d-men in the press box would make zero sense. Tough to not view this as a Krug replacement.

I think I was st a July 4th party hammered when I heard they traded Kalus for Fernandez

No way these 8 D plus all the kids are at camp

Who the hell is the important 3rd line center ?

After rethinking this

Chara -certainly near end
Krug- 2 years left on contract
Carlo- long term RHD 2nd pair
McAvoy- franchise RHD 1st pair
Grzelcyk- quality LHD bargain 3rd
McQuaid- last year on contract
Miler- quality 3rd pair
Moore- 3rd pair salary 27 adds O

So.....

Idk who will play 3rd line center but pretty upsetting to see Riley nash sign with Columbus for 2.4 million when we just paid Wagner and Nordstrom 2.25 million.

Could have had nash and khudobin for the price of Wagner, Nordstrom and Halak

I like Halak

Not big on Nordström

Surprised Nash didn’t get more

I’m a Wagner guy

Moore is fine as long as he’s not replacing Krug

Could it be that this guy will take on 2nd pairing duties paid like 3rd pairing guy and Krug drops to 3rd pairing/PP specialist , paid like a second pairing guy?

But then grzcelyk is in the press box paid like a 3rd pair guy and so is mcquaid. Can’t have 4 million dollars in healthy scratches on the backend. Someone needs to be traded. Golobuef is the perfect depth guy. Mcquaid and Grizz are wasted unless they are playing

I keep trying to tell everyone... After Gryz signed his deal, it became very clear that Krug was on his way out. This signing only further solidifies that.

Krug will be dealt for either a 2nd line RW or a center.

So Moore and Grizz will be expected to replace Krug's offense on the left side? It could happen, and then I imagine they are expecting more from Charlie on the offensive side. Krug's 59 pts leaves a big hole to fill.

Nope. Can't replace that offense from the blueline. Not gonna happen ever never ever.

They are going to try to replace it up front with the forward they acquire and will assume the defence is notably improved.

At least until Charlie's first Norris trophy year  If Krug goes, we have to think its part of landing a proven scoring forward. Panarin perhaps?

He's a great player, no question.

Value wise the trade is fair.

But last year just two teams had two 30 goal wingers, and the Bruins were already one of them. So why are you adding ANOTHER top winger at the expense of your D?

Cups are won by teams built up the middle and on D, not teams spending cap space and assets on luxury wingers.

Does Krug really follow the "up the middle and on D" template, though? I have been a Krug booster and CERTAINLY am trying to be wary of putting too much emphasis on the last time we saw him play (something many are making a mistake on with Heinen and DeBrusk, TBH)...but... he is small AND isn't very fast. He can puck retrieve well and get out of danger, and he is high high end inside the offensive zone. But, he has trouble around his own net. And he isn't good at mitigating that by denying zone entry like a Gryz can. So does he check the "built from up the middle and on D" template boxes? Or does he just happen to play D?

I don't think so. You can't turn your back on Krug's production without replacing it , Moore is not that guy, no way.

Sounds like Sweeney wasn’t too happy about losing out on Holden

But 5 years makes no sense unless there’s a deal in place to ship out Krug for a top 4 guy that can be chara’s replacement in the future

Nurse?

You invest in one area just means that eventually you'll have to subtract from another.

Wingers are the least important position players on the team the way the game is played. Debrusk will need a new contract sooner rather than later.

Spending all sorts of cap space on wingers at the expense of C and D is moronic.

Honestly, Marchand/Nash/Pastrnak opened my eyes a bit. Two elite wingers doing their thing with a defensively responsible center that isn't going to mess them up offensively. Like JFK or Frederic. Bruins are a long way away from being able to match Tavares/Mathews or Stamkos/Point. Seems like fighting fire with fire isn't going to work for them.
