The AHL completely redid their playoff format this year since they’ve got unbalanced divisions and teams playing three different number of total games for the season. This first round is more of a ‘Play In’ round since 7 of the 9 pacific division teams made it.

That is a consequence of having 276 teams in the playoffs. I think this is about making back some lost revenue.

I just noticed Safin was sent to the ECHL.. yikes. He shows flashes of high-end skill + speed but zero consistency.

OTOH Desharnais progression is nothing short of amazing. He was ECHL fodder two years ago. So bad.

I always held out hope that things would click for him, but at this point he likely needs to go back to Europe and find his game if he ever wants a shot at the NHL.

They can go back, yes. It's pretty common for players to get a taste of the pro game like this, even if it's just practice time. Tullio will be on the Condors next year though, no chance Chiasson is.
