Any other players due bonuses soon?

Want to try and get an idea of who Dorion is targeting next.

Loui Eriksson had a 4M bonus paid on July 15th. Base salary of 1M for the upcoming season.

Looks very Melnyk-esque.

Excellent target for the books. Vancouver will be happy to get rid of him. Would likely take cash back

Of course that would require a little foresight .. so sure he could be a target. The NMC means we'd be stuck with him in all likelyhood

Another bad look for the franchise.

Damn. Would have been one thing if he ended up catching on as an assistant coach somewhere, but to go somewhere else to fill the same role (essentially) that he was doing here kinda stings. Bruins seem like a classy organization for the most part though, so it makes sense.

The whole point of him coming back to Ottawa the first time around was to make Ottawa his "forever" home and I believe (unconfirmed) that his off-season home had been in Ottawa since he was traded to the Bruins.

Ottawa
Cue the "lazy DJ Zbad" comments.

Dude is gonna put up 30+ goals and be ~PPG next season and there are still gonna be people around here defending the move and parroting false narratives.

I wasn't super angry when he was traded, but its undoubtedly looking awful now. Absolutely pathetic that they didnt want to pay him 5.3 mil lol
Although even if we did sign him to that, he'd probably be gone by now due to suddenly becoming a "locker room cancer"

It's really hard to defend at this point.

It was always intended as a short term gain long term pain move. In hindsight, maybe we should have pushed for Duchene back then instead of Brassard (certainly would have made a lot more sense tbh) though not sure the Avs wanted to move him yet.

We apparently agreed with Roy to trade Zbad/Chabot for Duchene. Sakic didn't want to do it. Apparently that's why Sakic pushed so hard to get ridiculous packages for Duchene, because the price was anchored to him losing out on that package.

It seems really obvious to me that we knew what our window was and what the consequences of our budget might be, so we were going all in no matter what. I don't know if we expected to blow things up like we did, but I think management knew our budget was going to force us to either rebuild before 2019, or keep a few of our stars and have absolutely no depth because of their UFA raises. We were basically the budget-Blackhawks. Not that we had any success, but our salary ceiling forced us to make considerable compromises in the same way that the cap ceiling forced the Blackhawks to make compromises every off season.
