This is why you don’t hear Shanahan and others say anything negative about officiating or DOPS. This actually may make having enforcers that much more important now. If the NHL wants to get back to the old way then it’s time to have enforcers on each team. I’m starting to lose any faith in the NHL being a fair league. If you can’t beat the team with skill then just take out the star players. Enforcer will get a fine or small penalty and move on. Toughest team with balance and skill wins. A step back in time. Not that I agree with it.

Just to clarify, it appears as though the Rangers twitter statement came from ownership. Davidson and Gorton attempted to distance themselves from this, as in not supporting ownership views... and ended up fired. The claim is there is no correlation, but that seems doubtful.

Although if the team issues a statement behind their backs they were probably on their way out anyway.

It definitely seemed as if Drury was heading to that GM job since he started working for the team. This likely made ownerships timing of when to make the change a lot easier

Side note to the suspension talk, fines are completely meaningless. I feel like they just picked a maximum number that sounds like a lot of money to an average person but is also a completely trivial amount to an average NHL player.

Regardless of the offense and whether it should have been punished more or less:
$5000 fine for Wilson (5.2million AAV, 2million signing bonus this year)
$5000 fine for McDavid earlier this year (13million signing bonus this year 14million total)
$3000 for Thornton earlier this year as well, the guys career earning are 110million (just NHL salary)

Why would they care even a little about being fined?

For me it should be higher and be a percentage, not just a set amount (same for the real world too but that's a whole other thing), big difference in how a $5K fine impacts you when you're Connor McDavid and when you're Adam Brooks.
Aren't they bound by the fine amounts in the CBA?

Say its unrelated to what happened, then why not wait till the end of the week when your seasone done, dolan? What a gongshow, their coach deserves the boot more than either of those guys.
