For the 10th round pick, team Doblett of Fire is proud to select power forward LW'er Kevin Stevens. Although his career was derailed due to injuries and personal issues, in his prime Stevens was an elite power forward and put up 17 playoff goals in 90-91 leading the Pens to their first Stanley Cup. He will be a great addition to my top 9 forward group and PP.

Fremen are happy to select

RW, Daniel Alfredsson

What's it all about.........Alfie???????

It's about providing terrific scoring all the while providing a tremendous defensive presence. I think he is very comparable to Marian Hossa in that respect. Both tremendous 2 way players, on the wing, for a long period of time.

Only because we have to pick a goalie and only because he's probably slightly the BGA....

Squaw Valley holds their nose, closes their eyes and reluctantly selects:

G - Carey Price

(We feel very yucky right now)

The KINKY KIRKS are delighted to select RW Peter Bondra.

Bondra was one of the greatest snipers I have ever seen play and I always had enormous admiration for his talent, even though he played for the scumbag Caps. He was their AO of the 90s and one of the premiere goal scorers of the era, twice topping the 50 goal mark and finishing his career with over 500 goals.

Bondra was also one of the fastest players to ever lace up, twice winning the NHL’s fastest skater title in both 1997 and 1999. Now paired with McDavid, they will be the ultimate nightmare matchup for any defense.

Next up is Alex Kovalev! One of my favorite Penguins to watch, he was electric on his skates and supremely skilled. With 1029 career points, he is one of the best players in my generation, imo.

The Gentlemen Bastards will complete our Eastern Bloc line by selecting, LW Patrik Elias

elias.jpg

What is most impressive about Elias is not any single season but his general consistency on both ends of the ice during his time in New Jersey. He has played 19 seasons in the NHL, all with the Devils, and is the team's all-time leader in goals, assists and points. He is a 10-time 20-goal scorer and amassed 60 points eight times.

Defensively, Elias has been just as consistent. The Czech forward has killed penalties during most of his time in New Jersey and has 16 short-handed goals to show for it. His plus-174 rating is second-best in team history and best among Devils' forwards.

Elias is the type of player, as Tom Gulitti reported at the Fire and Ice Blog, who actually back checks during the All-Star Game.

If he was not so defensively responsible, would his offensive stats be even more impressive? It is certainly possible, but Elias' performance in all facets of the game has helped drive the Devils to two titles and four Stanley Cup Final appearances during his time in New Jersey.

And to point back to Point Shares, this time offensive...

A goalie that's in the running for the Dan Marino of goaltending (best to never win the big one). If you’re over the age of 25, you probably best remember Toronto Maple Leafs alumnus Curtis Joseph as the Leafs star netminder from 1998-2002 who saw the team through a handful of deep playoff runs, and four consecutive seasons as a Vezina trophy nominee.

Next up is a personal favorite of mine, Mathieu Schneider! The smooth skating defenseman with 743 career points will fit nicely on my second d pairing.

The KINKY KIRKS are pleased to select one of the best shut down blueliners of the 90s, Adam Foote.

Foote played a physical, extremely sound positional game and made life miserable for opposing forwards. He also had an underrated offensive game and a great outlet pass. The two time Stanley Cup winner will be paired with Brian Leetch to give the KIRKS a perfect blend of finesse and physicality on their first pair.

The Skating Jabronis War Room is watching the Penguins-Devils game but is taking a short break to draft:

Claude Giroux - C/LW

Giroux's accomplishments as a center are well known, but I have listed Giroux as a C/LW because last season, his first FULL season as a winger, he recorded 102 points, the only 100 point season of his career. He also was 4th in Hart voting based on that season as a winger.
