Thoughts:
Ghost just isn't that good, yes, he needs a better RHD, but at 5x5 he's at best a second pair guy and may end up on the third pair, like Streit in Montreal when he scored 62 points, his value is primarily on the PP and good to see him get his mojo back. He simply isn't the same skater he was as a rookie, and will probably never be, and the league has learned to pressure him. He's no longer feared in the open ice. Pair him with say Myers and he'd be better, but the fact that he needs a partner to take the pressure off says it all.
Gudas/Hagg remains an awful pair, Gudas can't skate and needs a mobile partner.
Provorov on the other hand has taken it to the next level since the All Star break, 30 minutes and he was flying out there, he's starting to trust his skating ability and is taking over game like a true #1. Still some rough edges, but he just turned 22.
Sanheim was up and down as usual, but nice to see him win a key board battle in the 3rd period, that to me is more important than his rush, we know he can skate, but he has to be good enough in the D-zone to justify 20 minutes a night.
Patrick also has taken his skating to a new gear, wonder if he was dinged up and the break gave him a chance to heal, because he looks like the second fastest Flyer out there, tied with Sanheim and just behind TK, with a lot more moves than TK. But he needs some real forwards, Simmonds continues to handle the puck like a live grenade and Laughton is a great fit on the 4th line.
JVR is also a 5x5 liability, but like Ghost, is a top PP specialist.
Voracek has to stay with Couts, he's a totally different player with Couts than with anyone else.
TK on the other hand, has to get away from Giroux at center, paired with Giroux he's been a liability.
Stolarz didn't have a great game, the 1st goal was 5 on 3, the 3rd goal was stoppable, the 4th goal was a perfect shot that's almost impossible to defend - though he's not as quick as Hart moving from post to post, but that's asking a bit much of your backup goalie. Made the big saves when it mattered, and that's really all you can ask. Flyers were outskated and outchanced by Minnesota, understandable given the previous game, but also a pattern that's gone on since Gordon took over.
Nobody could have won with goalies with a .880 S%, just look at Q when Crawford went down, look at St Louis before and after they promoted that goalie from the AHL. Bad goalies murder franchises. Good goalies save them.
