SFY does no have a good track record with first round picks anyway.
The only really good pick was Vasi. The rest no longer with the club, except Cal Foote who may turn out to be a #4 D in the NHL.
2010 6th Brett Connolly (Part of Coburn trade)
2011 27th Namestnikov (Part of McD trade, Now with Avs)
2012 10th Koekkoek (now with Blackhawks)
2012 19th Vasilevskiy
2013 3rd Drouin (should have taken Jones, but at least he fixed it and swapped for Sergachev)
2014 19th DeAngelo (trade for a 2nd round pick,Hájek , part of the McD trade).
2015 none
2016 27th Howden (part of McD trade)
2017 14th Cal Foote (Maybe NHL next season. Too soon to judge).
2018 none
2019 27th Nolan Foote (part of Coleman trade)
Connolly wasn't part of the Coburn trade, they were two separate transactions. We probably don't trade for Coburn without thr Connolly deal first but they aren’t connected. Connolly wasn't a good pick at 6 but he's a good player, probably goes 20th in a redraft so not a bust just underwhelming. Namestnikov was a good pick and player who would go higher in a redraft. Koekkoek was bad. Vasilevskiy great.
I get the Drouin pick. We just bought out Lecavalier, St. Louis was 38 and guys like Johnson, Palat and Killorn weren't established. Prospect wise Connolly wasn't showing enough, Panik wasn't either, Namestnikov wasn't expected to be a top 6 guy and Kucherov was in juniors. We needed high end offensive talent. Defensively I wouldn't say we were better set for the future but guys like Gudas and Barberio were trending well, we had just drafted 3 defenders in 2012. With Hedman they probably thought they could go without needing another pair pair D but a collection of ok ones, which we did for awhile, and that Stamkos couldn't carry the offense by himself, he couldn't but no forward is going to.
DeAngelo was a great pick they just gave up too quickly. Howden is too early to tell but for a late 1st he's already played more games and has more points than many guys in front of him. The rest you can't say since they haven't played an NHL game yet. The only outright bad pick is Koekkoek which is from an outright bad draft, that 1st round is littered with bad picks.
