Why trade for Campbell (lose assets) to have a anchor caphit (7.1M), when you can just promote Almquist for free and have him for 6.5 million cheaper? Use those millions at somehwere else.

Of course, Campbell could be better player, than Almquist. But better vs. his caphit. Not so?

Callahan has better toolbox than Tootoo. He has been all the time part of the Griffins penalty kill. That's why Tootoo was demoted to Grand Rapids, so they can scout Callahan comparing him on Tootoo, when they are playing on the same line. If Callahan can outplay him, everything is looking very promising.

Definitely worth to be a depth player, 13th-14th forward.

Oh, come on.

Almqvist is not a perennial 40+ point player. Almqvist is not one of the best-skating defenseman in the NHL (in fact, he's on the opposite end of the spectrum). Almqvist is not an experienced 2nd unit PKer.

Almqvist has been solid in his whopping 2 games of NHL play, but he's much more Marc-Andre Bergeron than he is Brian Campbell.

i am probbaly closer to being as good as almquist and having as productive of a NHL career as him then almquist is to campbell or having as good of a career as campbel has had

You guys just missed the point again. Here's some iron wire:

Let's say:

Campbell for 7mil + Callahan for 600k

vs.

Almquist for 600k + Vanek for 7 mil.

Which package would you take?

We can fill a roster spot with a talented kid who will fit exactly in this..

trading for a dman who can move the puck and can run a powerplay properly. He has to be able to skate well and do so even more in transition.

...and use that capspace to bolster the roster elsewhere. Like to get the best net-front player (+40 goal scorer in same package) in the league to let Bertuzzi walk.

I guess it all depends on your opinion of Almqvist. I don't think hell amount to that much.

I really think next year is our make or break year with D and Z.
1st line Dats Z Gaborik/Vanek
2nd line Franzen Weiss nyquist
3rd line Tartar Helm Abby
4th line Ferraro/Tootoo(hopefully cut or traded) Anders Riley Sheahan
Calls up Jurco Jarnrok Callahan
D
1st Kronwall Dekeyser
2nd Ericson / Upgrade via trade of FA if not Kindl
3rd Smith Quellet
Callups Almquist Marchenko Sproul
Goalie
Howie
Petr M.

This line up would have youth, speed, tenacity, and scoring ability. This roll out is very similar to the youth and vet movement the previous cup winners have had. Hopefully Kenny and Mikey boy get it together and cut ties with all the washed up, logjam players, and garbage players in Cleary, Sammy, and Quincey. Like to see Gus stay as back up, but doubt we can afford him.

Except for that glaringly obvious part where Almqvist is an average skater.

Gaborik is a practical possibility. Vanek is practically an impossibility. He'll want to sign long-term with a team on the upswing and the Red Wings are far from that.

Almquist, Sheahan, Ferraro, and many others will be RFAs next summer. How does that work if the Red Wings want to keep their rights but don't want to play them in the NHL next year? (I apologize in advance if this is a dumb Q.)

The happy news is that Bertuzzi's, Cleary's, Eaves', Gustavsson's, Quincey's, and Samuelsson's contracts will be expiring next summer. Ericsson's contract will be expiring as well, but I assume the Red Wings will attempt to resign him.

they must play in europe.

or they must sit in pressbox.

that is the only way if they want to keep their rights and don't want them to play in nhl.

and if they don't want them to play in nhl.. ferraro drafted in 09, sheahan in 10... drafting record gets even worse.

Good point, hadn't thought of that.

Top picks in their respective drafts who've had at least a moderate amount of success since. Out of waiver options...They HAVE to make the team next year, right? I mean c'mon, Kenny, we gotta see what they can do in the League, right?.....right?

Bad feeling: Jarnkrok eventually gets the Nyquist treatmemt...

I think one of Sheahan/Ferraro gets traded. Not just to be traded, but in a package deal at the deadline or draft.

Since coming back Franzen has looked like he belongs on the team. Whether he's a buyout or not seems to change week to week. Right now it seems ridiculous, because seriously, who else is making wrist shots like he's been?

The perhaps biggest cap decision of 2014, and moving forward, will be this very issue.
