Since coming back Franzen has looked like he belongs on the team. Whether he's a buyout or not seems to change week to week. Right now it seems ridiculous, because seriously, who else is making wrist shots like he's been?

The perhaps biggest cap decision of 2014, and moving forward, will be this very issue.

Our week by week soap opera...

As the Franzen floats

I won't miss an episode!!

I'd love to see something like this. I think Moulson would be a great player to complement Z and Dats. Has a great history of going to the net and plays "heavy" just the way Babcock likes it. Annual 30-35 goal scorer. By filling the bottom end of our roster with Griffs like Ferraro, Glen and Sheahan we get youth and speed instead of signing older vet bottom 6ers. Still have 1.6m to work with if Mrazek isn't ready or a vet 7th D or Bottom 6er is needed.

Still the most encouraging thing so far seems to be the fact that we're in the pathetic Eastern Conference where we sit 6th overall. If we were in the West, we'd be sitting pretty at 10th.

i'm not opposed to moulson but imo, he doesn't play 'heavy'.

he is/has

- excellent hands in close. one of the best
- one of the best players around the net, within 10 ft in net.
- solid passer.
- great at finding those places where the puck goes

what he is not/hasn't

- great skating ability
- great shot
- tough
- great puck possession player
- useful anywhere except around the net.

but he can score. sometimes you need those guys.

Here's my two biggest hopes:

1) Alfredsson calls it a career because he finally accomplished you know what

2) Weiss regains health and at the very least becomes a good 3rd line center which allows us to keep Datsyuk and Zetterberg together, with Helm, Weiss, and Andersson/Sheahan centering lines 2-4

That would be where I would place them assuming Cleary isn't resigned.....

The 14-15 season can't get here soon enough.

A summer for everyone to get healthy, and hopefully we drop a bunch of this dead weight.

I want to believe both of those will happen, but I can't. Franzen, Helm, and Datsyuk have become notorious for injuries. And Ken Holland still runs the team, so I'm easily expecting 2 of the 3 geezers to be re-signed (Cleary and Bertuzzi, Sammy is let go)

No. I'm not giving up on this season.

Not saying I'm giving up, I'm not. I think we'll make the play-offs.

Just saying that I think some of the things that are most frustrating about this season (having to watch bert/cleary/quincey be terrible, and having everyone hurt) will be rectified next season. So it's going to be a lot more enjoyable to watch.

If we bring back Bertuzzi or Sammy with how bad they have played this year, and how old they are, I would truly be shocked.

With Cleary there is always a shot, but maybe we can finally rid us of that nightmare.

I am 100% optimistic that the composition of the roster will be better on opening night next year, than it was this year. And that we will have a better season.

But guess we'll find out!

Personally I will be pretty shocked if those two don't both decide to retire at the season'a end.

Even if Sammy doesn't, there is absolutely no way we bring him back, IMO.

Sammys gone as the moment we're healthy. basically just a body in the press box wasting roster space and cap.
As far as I'm concerned I give Holland a pass on him being here(this year, not the original bad signing)
he was bought out as far as the organization goes as soon as July hit. Sammy knew this and that is why he was suddenly hurt once the playoffs were over. they bought him out and he lied so the NHL veto'd the decision.

As Redwings fan we should fally and create SAMMYGATE! I demand medical records to verify this! I just want him in the GR pressbox. Bring up Sheahan or Jurco full time.
I wish the lines when everyone healthy are:
Nyquist Z Mule ( They were dominate the short time they were together)
Alfie Datsyuk Jurco
Weiss Helm Tatar
Abby Andersson Miller/Eaves/Gleanding
Extras Cleary (prefer gone, but that won't happen), Miller/Eaves/Gleanding
D
Kronner E
Smith DD
Kindl / Lashoff
scratch or waive Q
Call ups
Marchenko AA Quellete

Just wait for the playoffs, when there's no cap or roster limit.

Then Sammy could be dropped in the deepest hole on Earth.

Isn't the whole Bertuzzi-Moore saga still on going too?
Admittedly I don't know a whole lot of details on the situation but I reckon lawyers and settlement money aren't going to be cheap and I think there's a chance that Bert will want to keep playing so it won't effect his retirement money.

So a washed up UFA vet who is long long past the point of being helpful that may want another contract from Kenny Holland, where have I seen this before?...........:help:

In all reality would Vanek or Garbo actually sign with the Wings? I have a feeling Vanek would not and that Garbo would request much more than he's worth.

I also saw someone mention Penner, I cannot see him coming to Detroit after either.

If the Wings throw enough money, anything is possible. But make no mistake, Holland would have to actually outbid other teams. He's not going to get either on a discount in a market where they can pick multiple winning teams.

The way Vanek has played, I wouldn't mind giving him a blank check. I think he's exactly the type of talent the Wings need to get to the next level.

grabo is great fit with caps. they are in talks for another deal. very slim possibility imo.

little better with vanek but not much. wh wouldn't he want to play the rest of his career with tavares?

good fit but i don't see it.

Vanek has been pretty clear he doesn't want to be part of a rebuild. The Islanders are currently in the running for a lottery pick. Plus, the Islanders are an ownership and management mess. No way I'd anchor myself to that organization, but that's just me.

If I was a betting man, it's Minnesota that gets Vanek. They'll let Heatley go and that frees up the cash for Vanek.

And on that note, Heatley is one of the most realistic Wings additions for 2014.
