"Don Metz"

Fired by the Oilers, but still somehow doing these docs. With Don Metz style production values. meh, wish it was anybody else.

I did like that the one Flame coming up to Connor and speaking to him was James Neal. A nice but surreal touch. Months later they are playing together, same team, and on the same line.

As far as the Edmonton media not reporting on this consider the org. It would hardly be out of character for this org to have stated that this news and story is off limits and that contravention would get you booted from any access. Access is popular at Rogers Place. More than it even was at Rexall. The perks and privs of being accredited media are even better in the new digs.

I thought I read somewhere that McD and the Oilers collectively decided to withhold info to prevent media gong show because it would be a huge distraction while he was rehabbing.

Yes, this is my guess. It also makes obvious sense. If he had surgery they would have reported it to let everyone know the time table. With this is was uncertain if it would even work. They didn't want to report it until it was 100% certain his knee had healed.

It is an unreal story. A guy who's knee was completely done, worked hard enough to rehab it and lead the NHL in scoring. This is almost Mario beating Cancer and coming back. Obviously a blown knee is better than cancer, but just in terms of the will to come back and be at the top of his game.

Too bad the team is so damn passive...would love a knee for a knee ;)

Yes they did. The guy I was replying to made it seem like Edm reporters were hacks because they didn’t find out.

Really, we should be happy our reporters are "hacks," then. Our media isn't as intrusive and invasive as the Toronto or Montreal media, for example. It makes Edmonton a significantly more compelling destination for players in that regard - constant invasions of privacy by media figures tend to get old quick.

Do you think this gets Connor some Bill Masterton talk?

I know he didn't miss any games or anything like that, but it does show tremendous perseverance and dedication to the game. His recovery over the course of summer and the fact that he was ready for opening night is amazing. Along with being our captain, you'd think he'd be our team nominee and maybe get nominated for the award itself.

Or am I out to lunch?

Oilers Now confirmed everything was under NDA so I'm pretty sure the media heads, scum or not, all knew about McDavid's status

Hopefully some actual information is provided in the documentary, or somebody in the media can ask "do you, or do you not, have an attached and healed PCL at this moment". This seems like a ridiculously obvious thing to ask, but.....
Yeah it's definitely an interesting question to ask. Every knee injury is obviously so different because there's often more than just one structure damaged solely due to the anatomy of the knee as a modified hinge joint. Whether his PCL is now intact or not, I think it's pretty clear that his knee is dynamically strong and stable (given how he looks on the ice) and that to me is enough to feel confident that he has recovered well. Seems to me that he made the right decision, and in a lot of cases there's started to begin a shift away from surgery (achilles ruptures for example) to alternative bracing/casting as they're showing similar outcomes with less of the risks involved in surgery.

Lets remember this isn't just Connor saying screw you I'm going to rehab this. This was Connor getting second, third, and maybe even fourth opinions from knee specialists to inform his decision on what his possible options were. The fact that there were differing opinions among specialist is likely due to a number of reasons. For one, there is no agreed upon protocol for PCL ruptures in the same way that there is for ACL ruptures. There's also always going to be different ideologies between specialists of different generations, and as the research progresses in an area some practitioners are more up to date or willing to change than others.

Saw Metz in CTV news interview say Conor's PCL is completely healed and they have the scans to prove it. It seems the lad has super human healing powers to go with his super human speed.

Yup saw the same thing and it's phenomenal what he did for rehab. Also noted that the PCL and bone fracture healed on their own.

This is his chance to skip the all star game. He has a valid reason, that knee needs rest. 100%

I dont understand why this is a reflection of Edmonton reporters.
The team took extraordinary efforts to keep the extent of the injury behind closed doors.

I dont blame the team at all for doing that.

I really dont see what the issue is here.

hmmmm, I guess we'll just have to watch it to see, and then see if the doctors on here actually believe what is said in the documentary. I don't believe Metz in that interview, just because he is still trying to hype up his own show. Just cause they say something in that documentary, it doesn't mean it's true.

Oh my, your already doubting the outcome because of what so called doctors on HF say? That would be some crazy logic.
