About the injury and the rehab. It looks really really really good.

Scheduled to air on Sportsnet after the All Star Skills Competition.

What I caught from the preview:

- it was a complete PCL tear
- multiple tears at the back of the knee joint
- severe bone bruises
- he had to make a decision about surgery which would affect the rest of his career within 24 hours
- no one has done this type of rehab before this quickly

And a crack in his tibia to boot. Although, that was likely not anywhere near one of the worst parts of the rehab.

Just shows you his incredible work ethic and belief in himself to do what it takes to be the best in the world.

The fact that he looks so damn good so soon after an injury like that is testament to him being a top 5 athlete in the world among all sports. I really thought his speed would diminish due to missing an entire summer of normal leg workouts, but he's been hitting 40 km/hr pretty regularly just as he did before. It's truly astounding what he's done to stay at the top.

But yet people will still say "you HAVE to believe the team when they talk about injuries" or some version of "they would NEVER lie when it comes to the health of their generational player". LOL. Yeah, they flat-out lied to us, repeatedly lied to us in fact - if the above information is true.

That McDavid has looked as good as he has, is a testament to his ungodly natural abilities, and pure will and dedication to the game, and to be the best he can be. It also makes you wonder some other things:

1. Just how good he would have been had he not gotten than injury?
2. Will he have any long-term repercussions from the injury?

It will be a very interesting documentary to watch, that is for sure.

I can't find the preview anywhere. Do you have a link?

The goat and the King of the NHL. I think some Oilers fans still take it for granted sometimes that McDavid is an Oiler. We’re the luckiest fanbase in hockey.

I said at the time that Giordano play was cheap as ****. Many of us did. Can’t understand the viewpoint of the HF hivemind that it was a good hockey play.

Gio loves his reckless plays. Guy doesn't give 2 craps about the possibility of injuring opposing players. He's always reminded me of Shane Doan. Cheap player that is constantly making reckless plays, but for whatever reason the media is always selling him as some kind of class act.

I just hope it has no long-term effects.

The diagnosis we were told seems to be far from the truth as to what he was going through

Sooo...McDavid had surgery after all? :)

I actually forgot that the org held up the story that he just needed a brace/rehab to fix a small PCL tear. Spector got some heck of twitter for suggesting McDavid had a surgically repaired knee (he never clarified or followed up on that tweet that seemed to come out of nowhere)

Guess I can give the Oilers a bit of credit for limiting info on their most valuable guys injury. At least until now when it is probably as healed as it could possibly be. Although, maybe the need to sell tickets was more the reason than trying to protect McDavid.

I know someone involved with the production of this and learned a few interesting things (not sure if they are mentioned in the trailer or made it into the final cut), but, for discussion:
  • The range of medical opinions was crazy; one doctor said surgery was needed immediately and that he would need two years of rehab;
  • The Oilers paid $4M to assemble a team of something like 10 specialists to develop a regimen for Connor to follow in a private facility near Toronto (NDAs etc. are the reason that the media didn't have the full story); and
  • For large portions of the summer, Connor was in the pool for 10+ hours a day.

I believe all of this. This will be painful to watch for all Oilers fans
