Lol not it is not. Severson is a better dman than Santini and should be playing the top pairing minutes over him.

And what happened when Severson was playing with Greene?

They got trashed because Severson isn't ready for that role yet. Let's put him back there, watch him struggle and lose confidence, and then complain when he gets benched again?

No, it really isn't. But I think we are all too frustrated to argue. For me, it all comes down to performing in crunch time. He didn't do that. But at the end of the day, a loss is a loss. On to Friday, need a W.

There wouldn't have been a crunch time without Schneider.

Homer: ''So Denis, think the Cats can beat the Rangers tomorrow at the Garden?''

Barney: ''*slurring of speech* It's gonna be a great test for the Florida Panthers tomorrow. Do you know how many big games I played in there? I can't really remember, as they were probably sometime during prohibition. I think Roosevelt was the president, Teddy Roosevelt, that is. I think we've got a great chance if they do what they did tonight''

Homer: ''Well, Denis, I was the biggest Rangers fan there was! Too bad I was already out of New York when they won the only cup they won in my lifetime! Maybe I'm a jinx! THE CATS WIN THE CU I MEAN THE GAME! WE'LL BE RIGHT BACK AFTER I GO CHANGE MY PANTS! JARED MCCANN WITH THE GAME WINNER AND I DON'T EVEN MISS GUDBRANSON'S BONE CRUSHING SCOTT STEVENS CALIBER HITS ANYMORE! THE CATS ARE HEADED TO MSG WITH TWO POINTS BABY!''

Bleedred: *Rejoicing in that he doesn't need to watch them again until February, but needs to vomit first, between that gross game, the underwhelming dinner and the brutal commentary*.

Greene-Severson was orders of magnitude better than Greene-Santini though. Greene-Santini is one of the least effective pairing in the NHL.

Lol do you actually look at stats and see how f***ing bad the Santini Greene pairing is and how bad Santini's advanced stats are?

The common denominator as to why the first pairing gets thrashed is the under sized, slow aging dman and captain Andy Greene.

Severson is the best dman on the team and needs to be given those minutes so we stop getting hemmed in our own zone. And Greene needs to have his ice time cut big time.

Its a Trap

Yes I’m still here to piss you off
But Butcher is also painfully slow. We simply don’t have another option on the left side right now.

Why LD is our biggest hole. Ideally you want someone to push Moore down to the third pairing and put Butcher back on the right side with LJ coming out (though to be fair Lovejoy wasn’t too bad tonight).

We need another D on the left side we can trust.
Agreed on all points. But if the season is going to have this kind of effect on him, he HAS to play less to keep him fresh or he’s got to take a game off here or there. Now naturally that scenario isn’t/shouldn’t happen until Mueller comes back unfortunately because Dalton Prout isn’t an NHL caliber defender in regards to anything, but it should be considered.

I am very upset that Cory let in 2 go ahead goals. I am way more upset that the team let him get hit with 30 shots in the first 20 minutes of the game. This should have been a blow out. Cory Schneider is why it was respectable.

All hail the Schneid.
The 3rd looked bad, a hybrid would've had a better shot as the don't drop to the ice. 2nd was a screen, no shot for the goalie if you can't see it.
Cory played well, loss isn't on him. Granted lots of shots were of the easy variety

Severson and Greene have a CF% of 51.55 where paired together this season. That's 81 minutes of TOI, relative to the 222 Greene and Santini have together.

I read both in Barney and Homer's voices and they were funny. :D

BTW, with the Habs actually WINNING in regulation against Columbus, thus keeping the Devils in FIRST PLACE, this loss stings just a bit less as far as I'm concerned.

Let's hope the Devils wake the hell up in time for the next game 'cause if they play like they did tonight, we can't count on other teams behind us losing games the same time we do.

We never play Florida well, even in the 2012 playoffs. Doesn't matter if we use cory, kinkaid, clemenson, Marty, weeks, moose, we usually don't fare well.
We usually do at home, or at least we have a good record at home.

We don't on the road though, we have one win there since the 2012 playoffs (October of 2014) and too many BRUTAL losses, many of which involved either blowing late leads, many times by multiple goals, or getting outshot by something horrific, though not quite like tonight, and just really brutal happenings all around. Believe me, I know, I've wasted precious money subjecting myself to it over the years. Which is why I'll be staying home for the game in February or March or whenever it is, and only going to see our game in Tampa. It's either go to the game in Sunrise, or watch the game on TV again with these two buffoon's. I might have to schedule something else for that night, or read a book or something.

CF% doesn't mean anything when Severson gets abused by top players for high quality scoring chances. There's a reason that despite all these good numbers Severson is consistently on the ice for goals against.

He's been terrific of late and I'd rather not throw him back into the fire and risk repeating the cycle.

Greene - Santini isn't ideal, but the idea is to mitigate the damage because we don't have the horses to combat it. It's either protect the net and mitigate the chances with Santini playing against top lines or trade chance for chance with Severson in that role.

This is exactly what they sound like. They are BRUTAL!

And by the way, my historical gaffe on Teddy Roosevelt being the president during prohibition, was a very intentional gaffe on my part. Denis doesn't know who the president was during prohibition, nor does he even remember that he wasn't even alive for either of the two Roosevelt president's tenure's, nor prohibition, let alone playing in the NHL during those era's in history.

Mueller being out kind of screws up the top 4 no matter how you split it up. I'd rather see a Greene/Severson pairing, but then that drops Santini with Moore, and for whatever reason Moore seems to look his best with Severson. In theory it would seem to work better with the more defense minded Santini, but in practice not so much.

What damage are we mitigating with Greene-Santini? They're getting killed out there, like Drago was doing to Rocky.

The puck just happens to hit the goalie's when they're out there, and tonight was one of the night's that it finally wasn't....

Really nothing we can do with the pairings until we find a way to get a proper top 4 partner for Severson and can roll a proper top 4.

We simply can’t put Moore or Butcher in those situations.

You can swap Santini and Severson if you want but it won’t chsnge much because the actual hole is on the left side, not the right.

Greene and Severson were out there for 8 goals for and 5 goals against. And while their PDO was 104, it was their shooting % that was raising that as they had a 0.88 save %.

I'm not arguing for or against the pairing. I'm just putting some facts out there to show that they weren't completely dominated. No matter what we have a bad defense core right now and Greene is fading before our eyes.

They better have the day off tomorrow to recharge, with 3 full nights before our next game. No need to practice tomorrow with no more games until Friday.

They had off yesterday, but they need another day off.

Hynes has done a good job with not making them practice every day, that's one of the good things that Pete also usually does. Coaches like AV, Sutter and Gallant (at least in Florida) only give you a day off because the league mandates it, and one of these guys even gives you a 7:30 or 8:30 morning skate for a matinee start time.
