simple...don't lose. One can be afforded that playing behind this team the last couple seasons.
I'm not as sold on Murray simply because of when he came up and what this team has done in front of him. He knows nothing but winning. I'm waiting for the lean years (meaning more than one) to give a good analysis to how great he is. It's too easy to to fall in love with what this team has done and judge a single player on the back of what was a stacked team that could make up for deficiencies. He doesn't know what losing is at the NHL level. He's never had the pressure of being the other guy opposite of this team.
There is a difference.
The reason the team's SV% is so low is that we are also the team who has been SH the most in the NHL. 4v5 SV% is much lower than 5v5.....and NiemiFor being 35th in the league in save percentage (announcers kept saying it the entire game on the stream) and not losing a game that's pretty crazy
Let’s just hope Murray doesn’t start hitting the ski hills before the gamesHonestly, Murray has a lot of Grant Fuhr in him. Not in terms of style, but in terms of the mental approach to the position.
Fuhr, in my mind, shook off goals against better than anyone who ever played the position. Murray is similar.
Compare it to Holtby, who seems mesmerized when goals go in on him. His body language is weird.
Hell, even Price completely lost it last night during the Anaheim game.
I think you can make a case for Murray being the best in the game right now.
Logged in and couldn't believe the last 2 pages of discussion. If anyone is questioning Murray or says they "arent sold on him" it's because they have something personal against the situation. That's all there is to it. It's not even worth arguing.
It's a well-known fact that if a goalie starts out knowing nothing but winning, a fall from grace is inevitable.
We all remember how Dryden started his career so successfully in Montreal, then hit a losing streak and ended up a male escort doing favours for booger sugar on the Sunset Strip.
I believe that's simply called a circle. If I had to guess... if one were to make a Venn diagram of individuals who hold this opinion and individuals who have Marc-Andre Fleury shrines in their living room, there would be a lot of overlap.
I will fight you.No beard genes. And he likes Cold Play.
Look, there's plenty of real reasons to hate Murray. His play hasn't been one of them so far.

Holtby just has no resolve and it's because we have scarred him. You see the first and 2nd goal go in and it's almost like you can hear his thoughts to himself saying, "don't blow it, don't blow it, don't blow it," and then he blows it and the cycle repeats itself.
Murray has a thought process that it's just a game, and you can sort of tell by his interviews. The games aren't too big for him because he's still a kid in Thunder Bay who is playing shinny hockey for fun. This **** isn't life or death for him, and that's why he can be scored on and have a horrible game, and then follow up the next game with a fantastic outing.
Murray's stats are somewhat damaged by the anomaly against Chicago. He is playing well but the team in front isn't. He's not the only goalie struggling to start this season. I'm interested in how Niemi responds tonight against Tampa.
To be fair, Dryden did end up in politics, so, y'know.... cautionary tales and all.
