I was just thinking...I believe that MDC will play and have a career in the NHL

I think he will eventually replace Chimera....

Kool Lemon replaced Reasoner who replaced Aucoin, who replaced Pandolfo who replaced Travis Green (I probably forgot a player or two in there somewhere)

Chimera replaces Kool Lemon

and MDC steps in and lands Chimera's role. I bet the team will sign Chimera to a dirt cheap contract for 1 year at a time for another 2 more years, then MDC steps in. I think he can handle an energy role position.

What about Dal Colle's game suggests to you that he'd be a good fit on an energy line? Some of the things that are keeping him from being an NHL player are things he'd need to fill an energy role -- skating, physicality, consistency, aggression.

He scored the other night
Had 6 shots on net this evening

Killing penalties and on second unit PP.

He has to build on these games

The goals will come - still needs time.

In hindsight not a very good pick - Imagine Ehlers next to Barzal

Agreed. I remember listening to Hockey Central once and Nick Kypreos was talking about how you need players who play like "bulls" to win. Don't see that "bull" mentality from Dal Colle. He seems far too passive and his skating his nowhere near good enough for him to get by.

You give dal colle ice time and skilled players be will produce. He's not someone who will create offense on his own though. It's going to be very hard for him to break through on a good team.

"However, Thompson has been happy with Dal Colle on the power play and praised his improved puck control and decision-making. Bridgeport is trusting Dal Colle with time on the penalty kill as well.
"He has to continue to work on moving his feet, but I think what he's doing, the fact that he is working so hard, both on and off the ice to get better, is a sign that he is not satisfied being in the minors or where he is at," Thompson said.

Interestingly enough, there was a little conversation on the boards leading up to the draft in 2014 about the word "bull" and MDC. Some used that term to describe his style of play, and others questioned whether that was actually the case since it was absolutely not evident in any of the videos of him playing.

I Agree with this. With the emergence of Matt Barzel. We are not too far from being in a cap situation. I honestly think we will only be able to keep 1 of Lee, Bailey, And eberle. I would give dal colle a chance on the 3rd line at some point this year, if there or injures. Next year hopefully he will step up in training camp with more spots available.

Give him a chance? No he has to earn that chance.

Absolutely not. Not with the way this team is playing right now. Why should they upset the apple cart just to throw an under-performing first round pick at the wall to see if he sticks? Let him carve out a role (ANY role) in Bridgeport and try again next year.

They'll probably keep 2. I'm almost sure Bailey will be let go on the assumption he's purely having a contract year season. I don't buy that theory fully but do believe this will probably be the best year of his career...and I don't mean TO DATE I mean including all the years he plays after this

By all accounts, he's been playing well lately. Getting a lot of shots per game (some bad puck luck) and improving his skating. Not every player can turn into a super all-star at 20 years old like Barzal.

The kid is still 21 which is (I think) pretty young for the NHL. Let's not write him off as a complete bust just yet. He very likely won't live up to his top-5 draft status, but that's in the past and I'd just like to see him turn into a good NHL player. Let him keep playing big minutes in the AHL. Keep working and getting better. There's no rush, the NHL is team is playing great and has more forwards than open ice time.

To me the best comparison for MDC is Anthony Mantha on Detroit, who is finally starting to show signs of life at age 23. Hopefully these guys are pure snipes who can produce when matched with the right mates as has been their history. If Tavares can get guys like Moulson, Parenteau and Bailey to produce, there's hope for this guy. I'd like to see him get a shot to play with JT or Barzal, just to stop my nightmares about Corey friggin Conacher. I'm still haunted by coma chief !

Yeah literally everyone had Dal Colle at #5. I remember some outlets flipping Bennett and Draisatl (which looks bad in retrospect obviously), but I don't remember any doubt about Dal Colle at #5.

I don't think Snow went off the board on any of his top 5 picks except Nino. Which btw oddly turned out to be a decent pick.

Players from the 5 pick on..

Reinhart hurts the most, because we had such an enormous need for a blue chip D prospect (I mean, we still do), there were so many to choose from who were similarly rated, and we picked the worst one. But now that we have Barzal, who cares.

Well..Trouba's not doing great...I think he's becoming the most overrated player in that draft.

Murray isn't that great...he's a good top 4, NOT top 1 or 2

I wanted Reinhart OR Lindholm and would have been happy with either...hindsight, I guess Lindholm was the better choice.

Dumba is "ok"

Pouliot - N...O...

Ceci is "ok"

Koekkoek - I need to see how he plays on a crappy team before I can give an evaluation.

I think Lindhol, Skjei, and MAYBE Maata came out on top.

That was a forward first round with Schwartz, Galch and Teuvo

It wasn't a strong draft...lets put it that way. Don't feel bad about this pick.
