It's funny, yesterday we heard why Babcock doesn't like putting Marleau as a centre. He said it's a lot more work taking care of the 200 ft all the time. It's a lot easier being a winger. Thank god Tampa has their best player hooked up with an easier workload

It’s not an excuse to have a difference of opinion.

There will be people who prefer the 20 year old 40 goal scorer who also happens to be a complete, elite centreman. More responsibility in all 3 zones makes it more difficult to produce offense and AM still does it at an elite rate, on top of everything else.

Do you understand the difference in their job description? Where do you think the ‘premium position’ distinctions come from?

Ask Hawks fans who was the more valuable player to their Stanley Cups - their higher scoring winger, or their do everything centre?

Matthews is a center, plays a better defensive game, and doesn't play with anyone as good as Stamkos on his line, and is also younger. For these factors I am picking Matthews.

Matthews playing with worse linemates and him being younger is irrelevant what comes to OP's question. As someone already mentioned, Kucherov produced last season with Brayden Point as his center.

Last 39 games, 1 period Kucherov has 35 goals and 64 points!!!! Making a pretty strong case, no?

Kucherov is on an insane tear right now.
I do take Matthews because he's a centre, quite responsible defensively and a huge play driver. Auston Matthews + Erik Karlsson on same team = should be illegal.

Oh no, it’s certainly a strong case. 1 game, right now, it’s hard to pick anyone but Kucherov. One of the greatest hot streaks we’ve seen in a long time..

Matthews is #34 on the Toronto Maple Leafs. Assuming he's healthy, look out for him when the Leafs play tomorrow night, if you decide to watch your first Leafs game ever
