This, but it's still painful to watch this ****.

Give what some time? You mean give it some time until Benning is fired and then Green is gone within a year of Benning's firing? Green won't last here much longer than Willie ever did. Once Benning is cleaned out, Green won't be far behind.
Give the f***ing Coach some time to put a stamp on this team and show what he's capable of?? It's madness to be calling for him to be fired after 4 games with a crap roster.

Vigneault was here 2 seasons before Gillis arrived. A good Coach can survive a regime change.

1 shot in 6 PP last game
Still keep the Sedins on 1st unit
Horvat gets replace by Burmistrov

almost looks like a home game in there

Travis Green is a great coach if you want to make the playoffs, and go for a cup run.

For a rebuilding team, he's a terrible fit. Given our team's position, we should've hired Trent Cull. He seems to be great with young kids, basically the anti-Green.

I find that mindset to be too short-sighted. Competent GMs understand the situation Vancouver is in - the roster is a collection of crappy and/or old players along a few decent young players/prospects. Rather than squeezing out a couple more wins in meaningless regular seasons, why not establish yourself as a coach with an aptitude for player development?

Things change quickly, though. Owners can get antsy and bail on a patient approach, fire the GM, and then the coach is likely gone, too. NHL coach of a losing team is an extremely tenuous spot, especially if you’re not an established guy. There’s a lot of pressure for results there, even before you consider management weren’t waffling all over the place about whatever the plan is.

Looks like he is finally starting the right Tender. When was the last time a Canuck goalie pitched a shutout in his first game?

worth reposting the original premise of this thread is outrage at a new line that was the best canucks line tonight.

This season is pretty much a freebie for Green. Its pretty unlikely a new coach gets fired in their first year (tho it does happen, the probability of it happening is generally pretty low). On top of that expectations this year is also pretty low (as in i majority of fans/experts are expecting a bottom 5 finish).

There is so much more to Willie than "he played vets too much." The man was a complete doofus who appeared to fall asleep behind the bench the moment the game started, was incapable of making adjustments, seemed absolutely oblivious to game context and kept trying to shove the same square pegs through the same round holes for hundreds of games regardless of whether it was pre-season, during a playoff race or even in the post-season. Sbisa-Bieksa ARE NOT A GOOD PAIRING YOU STUPID ****.

Green, who knows. I don't like that he benched Boeser but maybe he had some behind-the-scenes reasons to and he is playing a lot now so no harm, no foul as far as I can see. He does not exactly have a lot of top-six superstar young players to work with. Horvat is a vet at this point and Green seems to be showing him some tough love; I think Bo can handle it so I am not really concerned about that either.

I want to get angry about what is happening but I just can't see any reason to. Or maybe I am just apathetic at this point.

I'm a little bit concerned, if WillieD behind the bench is what appearing to fall asleep looks like to you. It appeared more like, undergoing a constant mild stroke to me.

Yes I acknowledged this already. I was hoping people could overlook the physical literality of my metaphor and pick up the point i was trying to make.

I was thinking Mike Fountain. But not certain.

Yep. The only other Canuck to ever do this.

FOUR games.

Kinda funny that the coach's decision that spurred this thread, was instrumental in victory.

*Mods.. can we edit the title to : 'NHL coach knows more than you'

DL44 my friend you are right i have to say. I hated him wanted him fired after 4 games but pulled the anti-Willie last game by switching up the PP and having a non Sedin unit as the 1st unit. Loved it. Obviously it worked and he tried it again. He also reduced the Sedins ice time by A LOT. De Zotto had some bad bounces the first few games but everyone knew he was doing good and he got rewarded with the MOST time on ice last game.

I liked the ajustments Green made and will see how he can make more changes as the season goes with ups and downs

You guys not telling me that if a more experienced coach got fired tomorrow you guys wouldn't think that coach wouldn't be an upgrade on Travis Green?

The reality is that this coach will probably be gone within 2 years and replaced by someone who is more qualified and better then him.
