I think Necas is done in this tournament, unfortunately. Hopefully it doesn't turn out to be a serious injury.

After game Jiri Kalous (Asst. Coach of the Czech nation team) said that Necas looked just fine right after the game and it shouldn't be something serious. I hope he was right!

Looks really solid out there, had a rough game against Russia but other than that he's played a good mature game, most excited I've been for a Czech prospect since Pastrnak and most importantly, he's 100% a center which we desperately need.

Two articles today about Mr. Storm...

Necas Looking to Make an Impact

Necas: From Mini-me to Maxi-me

The second one is the better read if choosing only one.

Reposting in this thread...I am just as excited for this kid as Svechnikov. I think he is going to surprise people this year. Aho-Necas-Svech powerplay unit one day please! Seems like he has a great atittude and work ethic combined with some height, speed, and creativity

I would hope for this year the two PP units are:

Aho-Teravainen-Svechnikov-Staal-Hamilton. Staal will need to be on the unit for the face-off. As much as I like Necas, no reason to break up Aho and TT. This first unit should be great at moving the puck.

Necas-Zykov-Williams-Skinner-?. If Skinner is not around maybe McGinn.

To the point of this thread--Necas will be able to use his speed and stick handling, though the second unit will be more of a wrecking ball unit with Zykov, Williams, and maybe McGinn.

I believe Nečas is going to be a tremendous PP player down the road. He can already do everything pretty well - carry the puck into the zone, move it around, stay calm under pressure and he's got a terrific one-timer. At the WC this May, he was able to join very quickly the first PP with Krejčí and Pastrňák, and was looking like he belonged from the first shift.

Finally, he was robbed like 2 or 3 times against Jets, so maybe the floodgate opens?

There has been a lively discussion on the Canes board about whether he should be in the NHL or the AHL this season. He's got the speed and puck skill, but has been a struggling with the NHL pace of play so far. Lots of turnovers and defensive miscues, and to the extent that he uses his speed he tends to race himself out of options.

Doubtful that the team actually sends him down, especially with Rask injured long term, but it's an interesting conversation about what's best for a young star who doesn't find immediate success.

I would send him down after Rask comes back. No point in skipping steps. He never really dominated AHL-level competition, he was pretty good at the Czech league but not above it. So I would send him to the AHL until he really outgrows it, dominating in the WJC did wonders to his season last year, why not try it again. Charlotte also seems to be a good team this year with good partners and fun winning environment.
