it's still a joke that he would have probably been sent down if not for the suspension of Schenn and injury to Laughton.

Hextall would've given the Flyers a worse finish in the standings, got lucky there

what? this so wrong. Konecny made the team on his own. Schenn, Laughton and their injuries have no impact on Konecny. Schenn is 1st line LW. Laughton had pretty poor pre-season and he was not considered for top 6 role. Konecny was in top 6 for the whole pre-season, 2nd line LW specifically. He was making the team regardless on these situations.

Terrrific assists by Konecny! His speed, skill and vision ...its insane.

Yes his performance in the pre-season should have made him a 100% lock to make the team but your fanbase was speculating that he could still be sent down a la Ghost last yr

To take this a step further, Hextall won't even give players 9 game trials. The injury and suspension never came into the equation of keeping him up.

Without the injury, Laughton likely gets sent down to the AHL regardless of Konecny's performance. Lyubimov, a healthy scratch tonight, also outplayed Laughton during the preseason.

Konecny made the team on his preseason performances. It would've been a joke aif Scott Laughton made the team over him.

Just as good as expected, beauty of a pass on that second Couturier goal.

Ghost went to the AHL, completely different situation, so if anyone was speculating that kind of move they were wrong.

You are unfamiliar with how Hextall is running the Flyers. Konecny and Provorov were not going to get a 9 game tryout, they either make the team for the whole year or they go back to juniors and don't play a game at all. The only way they make the team is if they prove they are better than the current options in place. Injuries or 3 game suspensions have nothing to do with it.

Here is a good article on how Hextall views the situation if you care to read about it.

Anyway, Konecny looks real comfortable on that line, it will be exciting to potentially have a second scoring line with Couturier as the center. Good times in Flyerland!

I kinda wish the leafs just drafted him in stead of reading down. Konecny looks like he'll be a good one

It's too bad as a Flyer fan that Travis has to be in the same rookie class as Austin....Travis is going to be beaut but no one is touching Matthew in this years rookie class outside of injuries....

The future will tell. It's not just Auston, Laine is also in the same class and he could score more than TK.

Nonsense. There's not a world in which Hextall would have played the waiver-exempt Laughton over Konecny. The Schenn suspension is irrelevant too, he said he was here for 82 or 0, not 3.

Devils fan here.

Really impressed with Konecny. He will be an offensively dynamic force for years. Can't help but be a little jealous. He would have been perfect for the devils... We need a high end offensive right wing talent.

The Irony is they could have had been teammates. Travis is going to be a stud of a player. Let's just leave it at that.

That's what people thought last year with McDavid. Anything can happen. Hopefully not an injury this time though, just a close race.

This

Konecny will be a star in this league. If not for Matthews him and Prov would be battling for the calder. Positive times for flyers fans imo

Still one of my favourites from the 2015 draft. While things could still unfold favourably, I really wish the Leafs kept that pick and took him.

Also worth noting that he's playing LW right now.

The line is Konecny-Couturier-Voracek and they were our best line last night... by miles. I'm sure over the course of the year we'll see plenty of different combinations of all the lines because of injuries, dry streaks, or whatever else, but it's really nice that he can play any spot we need him since LW is easily our weakest forward position.

Remember the joke when he was drafted and while walking down the stairs, Pierre said "he gotta get quicker, he gotta get quicker". Like what were they watching, speed is one of his strenghts.

I've been very high since day 1 with TK, and from the get go I said he has superstar potential. I mean not Crosby/McDavid/etc, but to become an elite player in the league.

The leafs also have a log jam of young forwards with top 6 potential. Obviously adding Konecny would be a nice addition to our group but adding dermott to our particularly bad group of d prospects, and bracco who also has high end skill was not a bad move imo.

Awesome debut! I too wanted him to be the Canucks pick. He is Bo Horvat's cousin and you can tell, they're work horses.

That's never been the case. The kid got #11, he made the team on merit. Same with Provorov. You think you see something that they don't?
