Hackett standing in solidly, turning aside all 17 Reign shots in the first, including one that I'm still not sure how he stopped. Ritchie converted a sweet one-timer for the early PP goal, then the Reign created some smothering pressure in the Gulls end for the latter half of the period. Ritchie has also made a couple of obvious mental/lack of effort mistakes, so he's not been an unalloyed good tonight so far. Very chippy from both sides, lots of after-whistle shoves, so far no fights, but Bissonette and Bickel each got unsportsmanlike penalties after a pre-faceoff situation... Wouldn't be surprised to see more later.

1-0 Gulls after two. Mueller took a puck to the grill in the first, and left the game with blood on the ice, but was back in the 2nd. Ritchie is having a bad brain day, overall, despite the goal. Hackett had to get a replacement mask after taking a puck to his own temple at one point. Lots of special teams play both ways this period. Wagner is lucky not to have gotten a five and a game late in the period after taking out Herr with a charge, leaving Here unable to put weight on his right leg.

Gulls need to figure out how to put some more shots on net against the Reign or they're gonna get swept.

Larsson just had a the kind of shift that gets you benched for the rest of the game. Think Sbisa and Schultz having a love child, then that child having a child with Sbisa, then that child having a child with Schultz. That kind of bad.

How is that even possible, what did he do pick up the puck and set it down 10 feet in front of his own net and move out of the way?

That was a heartbreaker, and may have been the back breaker, especially with Game 3 only 19 hours away. The Reign's size just wore the Gulls down, and by the end of the third and into OT, it was no more than a holding action. Hackett has to be devastated, after his best game all year came to naught. This is gonna hurt for a while.

Started out ok, but got more tentative and prone to mistakes as the night went on. I'd be surprised if Eakins puts him back in the lineup tonight, even if only because of the back-to-back with travel.

What happened to Welinski? Looking at the lineups between games 1 and 2, it's as if Larsson took Welinski's spot in the lineup, but is there a specific reason for that?

overall thoughts on Larsson?

You can see his talent on the puck. Bit tentative at times but that was probably the intensity of the moment. Had a good safety net playing with Theodore and the two of them were pretty competent in getting the puck up ice the best they could.

Super difficult game for him to get into considering what little space the Reign give the Gulls players in the neutral zone. Probably his best assets: His skating and outlets, were fairly neutralized coming across center red.

Had a few good moments of stick handling and aggression in the o-zone. Got caught flat footed on the game winner and kind of let Mersch go right in front to screen Hackett while he puck watched.

Looked decent all things considered. For a first game and the situation it was as expected. Made some good plays, made some tough/bad plays, looked a little gun shy at times. Again though, you can definitely see the talent there.

Personally I think he looked better than both Cooper and Welinski, granted small sampling for all parties involved.

Good analysis. It's hard playing your first game on smaller ice with new teammates in a playoff game. Can definitely see how he's tentative. Good that he showed fairly well all things considered.
