sure, but everybody is worried about the right wing needs that make Caron look like an option to dress. solve that problem. "sorry, but...." natural decline, contract, value, return.... Boston Bruins Captain Patrice Bergeron-Cleary. say that aloud.

depth on defense is no issue for the foreseeable future. cashing out the high value chip frees up a spot for the 13th forward. the Bruins have more ready callups than any other team. how about packaging in two veteran centers in Kelly and Campbell? I feel like many teams would give up their star shooter. well, folks, that's what Jeannie needs. I don't know how you get him (them) to accept a trade, but I like:

LUC/KRE/your favorite player
MAR/BER/SMI
PAI/SOD/ERI
CAM/SPO(GRI)/PAS
SEI/HAM
BAR/BOY
KRU/MCQ(MIL)
RAS(SVE)

it's a different concept on the forth line, but there's no avoiding some level of different there. this team suffers when they are slow to make the right calls. mostly that's been a Julien thing, but some tough roster calls need to be made sooner or later, so I hope they are considering how to move some of those older contracts. I'm in the camp of getting the value while it's there, not getting saddled down with lessened players and using the hot youths while they are both of those things, before they are slow and injured AHL veterans.

Chara/Kelly/Campbell/Lindblad for Semin/Khudobin/CAR contract dump.... something like that. the real issue would be changing the style of play away from that dry erase board anchor piece being key to having more flexibility and flow in transitions and in coverages. I doubt it'll be soon, but I can't wait to see the Spring of growth after the Chara era, as awesome as it is. if they wait too long it doesn't bode well for the current crop of new growth that seems more promising and ready than any.

He retires a Bruin, and maintains measurable value until the end. I predict he turns into a pp/pk specialist, clearing our crease and causing havoc in there's. His declining foot speed won't matter if he's used predominantly in special team situations.

For now I'll continue to appreciate what's left. And what's left is a 6'9" monster that is still a Norris caliber defender.

I hate the fact that I feel really stupid because I feel like you might've had something to say, but I don't understand a word of it.

Feeling a lot more confident about the distant future sans Chara after seeing Hamilton and Morrow this year. Those two will make a great foundation on D for years to come!

What a boost it will be getting him back in the line up along with the improved confidence of Dougie and some of the other young guys built during this stretch.

trudatman....at least SOME of us picked up on the Zevon reference! :yo:

Despite the drubbings at the hands of Toronto and the hated habs, I hope they don't rush him back prematurely, ala DK.

On October 24th it said 4-6 weeks without Chara.

In 3 days it will be 4 weeks, any news on anything about the Capitan?

Both DJ Bean and Mark Divver tweeted today that they saw Chara in the hallway at the Garden today doing "agility drills," whatever that means (I got a mental image of him walking on his hands, though that's certainly not it); Divver said something about a ladder - perhaps someone familiar with such workouts could expand on that. Divver also said he had braces on both knees.

I would assume one of those drill with a ladder lying flat on the ground and doing crossovers between the rungs...not actually climbing a ladder.

This is it.

My son's team played a triple A elite team from MTL in a tournament and they were using them in the halls to warm up. Basically it's a simplified version of the tires seen on an obstacle course, meant to improve footwork.

I have a hard time with the ladders when completely healthy, so I have no idea how close Z is to skating?

the way this season has gone so far, chara was working out under a ladder and bunch of black cats before leaning against a truck full of mirrors to rest when the truck's brakes failed and careened down a hill over train tracks into a graveyard, knocking over all the headstones and covering them in shattered glass.

Darren Dreger said last Wedensday he was 2-2.5 weeks away from returning to the lineup so that puts his return date at

Between November 26-29

So im guessing he misses the next 5 games and comes back December 1st the start of our 4 game west coast trip

Does anybody remember this offseason, when people were calling Chara "just a number 3 defenseman" and then the vast crowd started to warn them "You don't want to imagine what this Bruins team would be like if Z went down". If this stretch of games since he's been out isn't an indicator to how much he means to this team, I don't know what does.

We have a tendency to take for granted what Chara brings on the defensive side of the ice, but let's not forget what he brings offensively as well. 40 points last year, 15 on the powerplay, and 17 goals. At 37. One of the big reasons why this powerplay went from 26th in the league to 3rd was putting him down low in front of the net. You take him out of the equation, and its the same old shoot from the point with no traffic in front powerplay that we've seen for the last 5 years. Torey Krug is still effective, but what made him so dangerous was having Chara out there completely blinding the goalie.

Hope that Z is back soon, because this trip more than ever, his absence is making itself felt.

I know that obviously it's going to take him some time to get into "Game Shape" but he was a freakin pylon out there with arms like Gumby that couldn't put an ounce of muscle into anything. I've seen him have some games where he looked awkward out there but this one took the cake.

Yeah, I hope he gets into Game Shape quickly. Otherwise he has morphed into Hal Gill except at a higher price.
