The wave of JR over Bowman votes is an interesting choice. They're both in a similar spot but Bowman's been in that downturn for way longer
Not a superior centre, just a superior (by a little) player.
The reverse, the more productive and better defensive C, in Nylander would go 4th.
Drafted as a C, still plays it.
Not really. There’s 31 teams in the league. Canadian teams make up just under a quarter of the league and haven’t won a cup in 30 years and don’t look likely to win one anytime soon. There’s a reason that most consider the Canadian GMs amongst the bottom 10 in the league.like 90% of the responses here are Canadian GM's lol
people get so hyberbolic here about Canadian teams
Dubas came into a situation where he had as much young talent as anyone, and boatloads of cap space and has had zero success. It is hard to find a GM who has done so little with so muchDubas how?
First he has been on the job only a few years.
He came into a situation where dumb dumb hunter and many people before him NEVER drafted well or ever targeted defense.
Also who is to say anybody would have signed Matty or Mitch for less? Who was getting JT for less? Yes he should have played harder ball, and JT was prob not needed, but good GM's go out and get premier free agents. Again he is young and I am sure he will learn (look at the rest of his contracts with mid tier players and you will see they are reasonable) and many GM's sell the farm on shit players.
Finally his drafting. Say what you will on the makeup of the team but he gets great value picks (not perfect) but solid. He drafts for BPA. This doesn't even get into how hard he goes after free wallets, which is also important.
Dubas is young and will keep improving. He will also make mistakes as well (Kadri trade but who knew Barrie would be that bad) but he most of the time does well (like the Kappy trade which is robbery)
This is not even mentioning how much he cares for players like when he stayed in the hospital with Mikheyev (which goes a long way with a player and agent) after his wrist injury.
Dubas is far from the worst GM lol many many more are much worse.
Jarmo Kekäläinen?
That dude has lost his vision and mind.
He's also been a pretty good drafter, so far. Overall, I can live with a couple million extra on start player contracts. He hasn't signed any of the leagues worst 50 contracts, so it's hard to really call him the worst because of that.
I voted Lou, but I really don't like what's going down in St. Louis (Losing Pie because of the Faulk contract!?), I don't like what Bowman has been up to lately, and I have some question marks about Bergevin.
Benning used to be an easy pick, and he's paying for his sins now, but hard to argue against some of his drafting and recent decisions.

it's hard to say anything bad about Wayne Simmonds getting 1 year and $1.5 million
I'd bring him in, but it would have to be a league minimum contract a la Spezza.
He's not what I want on my 4th line anymore.
4 lines are fast, they smother opposition, they get a couple hits in.
The "fast" part being the key.
No thanks, he's an ES liability, PP specialist.
There will be much better players available for free.
League minimum for 4th line duties, sure. More than that... hard pass.
Even at league minimum, I am not sold on this...
So 4 different responses from Leafs fans who don't like Dubas giving Simmonds $1.5 million for 1 year speaks for all our whole fan base? It's very easy - just look through the Simmonds and Toronto speculation threads before Simmonds signed, and you'll see a lot of people saying bad things. Here are some comments from just Leafs fans:
I can find plenty more if you'd like. It's very easy to say bad things about signing Simmonds at $1.5M given that he's been very bad over the past few years and a very sizeable portion of your own fan base was saying a lot of these bad things before he was signed.

To be fair, that "sizeable portion" is probably bigger than SJ's total # of fans. The Leafs are the biggest hockey team in the world. Every team has their share of confused fans - we just have more due to the sheer size of the fanbase. It's very easy - just look through the Simmonds and Toronto speculation threads before Simmonds signed, and you'll see a lot of people saying bad things. I can only speak for myself, but the idea of Simmonds on a league minimum contract would have been in tandem with a serious offer to Pietrangelo. So now that Toronto isn't trying to force feed an $8 million plus contract under the cap, the difference between $700,000 or double that at $1.5 million isn't the end of the world.
However, I would like to find some more money to squeeze in a Corey Perry if possible. He's still got a lot of juice left from the playoff run.
1 Year and $1.5 million AAV for Simmonds is a lot better then the 1 year and $4.5 million Dubas gave last year to Cody Ceci.To be fair, that "sizeable portion" is probably bigger than SJ's total # of fans. They all would take him at 1.5Are the vast majority Devils and Flyers fans who have watched Simmonds first hand over the years and said he is terrible are also just "confused fans?" Were the statistics that all show Simmonds' awful play over the past three years just tracked by "confused fans?"
