Have to say that while I prefer club football, this was a dramatic final to a good tournament.

Have to say that despite the fact they lost, France making another final is a huge. I don’t put too much into them missing a few players, but even that strengthens the argument about how good they are. I honestly expected them to win the whole thing, but I’m happy to be wrong. Mbappe is a really unlikeable player and so I don’t feel sorry for him, but he had little support out there. I thought apart from his second goal he didn’t have that great of a match either and his first penalty was close to being saved. Still that second goal was phenomenal and he clearly has the ability to take over a match and show up in big matches as he’s demonstrated a lot already in his young career. Felt a bit a bad for Dembele as he was given the task of defending which while he tried doing he also clearly isn’t good at. Still Dembele does seem to struggle in some of the bigger matches. Looking at Deschamps, I think he’s a good NT manager, but he’s also overrated. With the talent at his disposal I’d say what he’s achieved should be the expectation generally. I think he miscalculated on probably one level or another for this match and while his substitutions has somewhat of an impact, there were other factors like Argentina giving away two stupid penalties.

Really a fairytale win for Argentina. Very much well deserved though. Crazy they went from “never gonna win anything with Messi” to that Copa American run, the run after that and now this World Cup win. Almost scripted. On top of that Messi being the best player of the tournament. Kudos to his supporting cast of players and management though too. I think it was a real team effort with some players who aren’t necessarily world beaters stepping up and pulling their weight. Enzo, Alvarez, E Martinez, Mac Allister and more all and their moments and helped along the way. Messi that one constant though and after hearing some much stupid bullshit about him over the years it’s great to see him win it. Biggest ”big match” player of his generation by a country mile and probably ever. And it was great to see his boys down there with him during the trophy presentation, escorted by Kun Aguero no less from what I could tell. Anyway, you’ll have to forgive me this, but I hope I get to see him back in a Barca jersey again some day and I don’t mean the old timers matches.

Amazing finale. Great day for Argentina.

Biggest non-factor for the entire tournament: heat.

Ask people here if I hype Pavard, Lucas at LB, Upa before this competition and may others.
People need to stop being lazy and use their brains.
Well, you might have won today with Pavard at RB. Kounde was outclassed by ADM in a way that as a Barcelona fan isn't even funny. Hopefully we keep him at CB from now on.

Knew that Argentina had an edge going into PKs because they had more experienced team and Lloris is terrible at PKs (and was terrible again). If anything, would've looked at subbing him at the end (instead of Kounde). Tough decision for the coach though.
Lloris is at 15 percent penalty saves in his career, Areola is at 16, not much of a difference there. Mandanda is at a dreadful 8 percent.

Now that was a finals. Feels like it's been a long time we've had one that really had the feel of a finale, though I'm probably wrong so don't go quoting me. It was my son's birthday party and even the non-football family members were right into it by the end. Happy for Messi's legacy being confirmed, win was deserved, though if France had pulled it off it could have been said to be deserved too. Two great teams, one great final.

I honestly dont know where to start. I thought about responding to some of the nonsense comments and gloat but what I felt after the final whistle is something no one can take away from me or any Argentinian fan and player. It was truly something special that I cant put into words. I wish one day you all get to experience this. Its better than any Stanley cup, CL or league trophy. TO the friends on here that reached out I truly thank you, I was unable to respond to anyone here on in real life as their friends and family who's numerous calls and texts that Im still trying to respond to this morning. But with all the emotions and the roller coaster game I simply couldnt at the time.

Watching ADM cry after his goal and then subbed off and watching helplessly like the rest of us, is now a core member. He vindicated Scaloni's choice to start him and looking back its crazy that it was even a debate. I am certain Scaloni was a lot more confident and it was ease for him. It was incredibly obvious that he would score and be the best player in the game. WHICH HE WAS. In the final dubbed Mbappe v Messi it was in fact another Rosario boy's final, which I mentioned it would be on here and to my friends. He's simply is too good when it matters most. Be it for Madrid or the NT.

Cuti was immense, can you imagine not thinking this psychopath isnt a world class defender? No defender right now Id rather have going into a final. Same for Emi who is clearly a WC keeper and showed it once more. Yeah, his antics may rub people the wrong way and his celebtration which he's done before is cringy to watch but the village idiot is much much than dances and stupid cellys. He is in fact a world champion.

Otamendi arguably the 2nd best defender in the tournament had such a poor game. Conceding a needless penalty and very loose with the ball in dangerous areas. Luckily Cuti stepped up as well as Emi. He has been so immense for 18 months for the NT I'm glad it didnt come down to his silly mistakes. Not always reliable nor i'm his biggest fan but how he's performed lately can not be understated. He can now hang his hat for his watch has ended.

The midfield Enzo-RDP-Alexis... two thirds of this trio werent even supposed to play that much let alone be such key players. Enzo broke out like I thought he can but to make this impact and basically give Scaloni no choice but to sit Paredes is actually insane. He's only been playing in europe for 2 months. Already world class before his Benfica move i reckon. Alexis I thought was nothing special before this year but he really came into his own and mitigated the loss of Lo Celso. I dont see him losing that spot now. RDP a Valencia reject turned into Messi's bodyguard. Not the best on the ball but born with 3 lungs, I certain he's still running in Qatar atm. A true warrior on the field a leader.

Messi what else is there to say? If you didnt have him as the best in history I would just laugh before the game... now well I would question why you even watch the sport as its not for you. For those who questioned him or wanted to see him fail I feel bad for you, honestly the perfect player a pure artist on the field that if you cant enjoy this isnt the sport for you. When people watch football they should watch him. Infallible. Never mind the stats just the little things he does on the field is worth the price of admission and then some. There is never going to be a player like him. Irreplaceable and truly one of a kind.

I forgot to mention Scaloni the youngest coach in the tournament, Never coached a team before taking on the NT. I was certain he would be a train wreck. He proved me wrong time after time. After copa I had complete trust in him. Those who questioned him after Saudi were made foolish as well. He simply took every challenge and handed it beautifully. Of course I didnt like his ADM sub for Acuna. It shouldve been Lisandro or even Correa but no one bats 1000%. Best NT coach imo. THere arent many good ones though.

And this win IM glad Kun was there for the entire ride. It was his just as much as anyone elses. Wish pipita was there too.

Shout out to brighton and @robertmac43 Argentina was powered by Brighton... thanks for Emi and Alexis and maybe Buonanotte.

The first 3 thrusts by my dad wasn't anything spectacular, but on the 4th he made me!
Hearsay!

from what I understand, FIFA will actually rethink this new format and debate/vote on it in their next big meeting or whatever. Infantino seems to have had a change of hearts after the groups in this WC all came down to the last matches basically.
Good. If anything I would go smaller. 32 teams/countries where less than 10 are favored is just fodder. Crap teams shouldn't be able to pull out a luck or upset when they shouldn't even be there in the first place.
I hope they reconsider for that is a devastating change they are about to do.

add: I still say, The best teams don't even get to play the best teams this format. You have 16 from group. Instead of knockout it should go to another group, 2 or 4 winners groups, where same thing... play each team once, on both sides... then they can make a final 4 or whatever they want .... that way better teams play better teams and it's more certain they can beat most teams/countries.
That is a lot of matches and all, but they do have FOUR years to qualify etc....

I honestly dont know where to start.

Congrats bro!! I didn't know if you had already posted something and didn't want to scroll through 50 pages so I'm happy to just check in now and see your post :thumbu:

Obviously I'm not an Argentine however it has always been the country I've cheered for the most besides Belgium. Don't even know how it started, I have pics of myself as a little 5-6 year old running around in an Argentina shirt and even my parents don't remember where I got that  Always had a fascination for Argentina football which grew over the years with Messi playing for Barça which has been my childhood club as well. So it's been crazy intense going through Messi's entire career at Barça, all those highlights, and now finally seeing him shine for his country and winning it all.

The final itself was just insane, even though for almost 80 minutes France looked completely lost. Why can it never be just simple and easy with Argentina? Always has to be drama involved. Not much else to say than what already has been said, it was a game for the ages and there is just nothing like international football on this stage and that alone will (for me) probably make this the greatest game I have ever seen, even though I have seen a lot of crazy club football games. It's just not the same. I can't even imagine Belgium playing a game like this, I'd probably be too scared to watch live.

Only negative from yesterday - why the hell did it take SO long for the trophy presentation, and why the hell were Infantino and the Emir sooo cringe, not letting go of Messi and the trophy. Seriously wtf. Macron also pretty cringe with Mbappe, almost like some drunk uncle at a family gathering hugging you for way too long, telling you all kinds of nonsense you don't want to hear lol

Congrats again to all Argentinians here, it's gonna be one hell of a party in Bs As :thumbu: Hope at least PSG lets Messi take time off until January or something

Amazing finale. Great day for Argentina.

Biggest non-factor for the entire tournament: heat.
You don’t have the tournament without the construction of the stadiums, and I can definitely say the heat was a factor in the migrant worker deaths.

If we could such notables if they can be called that who thrive on photo opportunities and PR should be banned from such presentations.

Infantino is worse than Blatter holding onto the trophy and then directing Messi where to go. Same with the Emir and the shawl. It's probably a symbol of recognition and merit but really Messi wants to be in his national colours.

Macron always desperate for a PR opportunity hoping for a win to no doubt utter some meaningless words. They should have ex-professionals/coaches from those participating nations present the awards say Giresse or Zanetti. Not clowns like Infantino desperate as ever for the media limelight. Utterly cringeworthy to intrude on a moment of triumph like that.

It's got nothing to do with you and your morally corrupt organization.

Macron looked like he was about to cry which to see in any politician is always satisfying. Wherever they are around the world they are generally the worst sort of people.

Meanwhile the BBC produced this wonderful montage. Enjoy it while you can. Association football is the greatest sport on Earth still. The way it unites, the sheer drama unwritten before the ball is kicked and all the gamut of emotions.

The beautiful game (still just about).

It's been a party wherever there are Argentines Savi. Here in London too where there is a small community. And all the supporters out in the subcontinent, Spain, North America. Wonderful scenes.

It must be awesome in Argentina though, it being summer and all. These tournaments are always in winter for southern hemisphere nations so to finally win it again in their summertime is great I think.

I would love to be there Savi. The energy with the crowds having been at Finalissima was amazing but what was seen in Qatar and in Buenos Aires is even greater. It's thrilling though. You feel the energy and life in your body and soul.

This thread is my favourite... Messi cant take a breather without someone wanting to hug him. He's the best hugger of all time. TBH the one from ADM is the best. I want one.
