I don’t get the Atlantic sucks thing. They have 2 top 3 teams in the league, of course their worst teams will have a worse record than a bottom end team of the pacific.. their top end teams are mediocre.

So far, it really looks like the Leafs are going to fall into the playoffs ass-backwards.

Wonder when Driedger is coming back? The Cats could use a reliable goaltender right about now.

Ditto

Andersen has been BRUTAL since December. Maybe Campbell is the answer, he's looked sharp since being traded here

That Bobrovsky deal is absolutely terrible. It will be a major detriment to the remaining prime of Barkov and Huberdeau.

It's a major detriment to me continuing to have a local hockey team, to be honest. That bum is gonna sink the entire franchise.

I think the proper question is will the Maple Leafs let the Panthers make the playoffs.

Since the Panthers are paying Bobrovsky $10 million AAV do you really think they won't keep playing him?

Driedger will almost certainly start when he gets back from injury. Bob just got benched again, for the guy who was sent down to the AHL earlier in the season.

Panthers controlled their own destiny. Now they no longer do and are choking away what should have been an easy playoff birth. Watching them lately has been painful.

Panthers have no leadership and a losing culture. Too many passengers and an incompetent GM. They have the talent/skill but the other stuff appears to be too hard to overcome. They’re very close to being very good but Tallon sucks.

They'd be at least 5 out right now if the Leafs didn't gag that game away in regulation 2 weeks ago.

Already at 22 regulation losses, and only have 5 OT/SO points to make up for it.

What's really hitting the Panthers is their points% against the Pacific relative to the other teams in the Atlantic. They're 6th, behind both Montreal and Buffalo, and just barely ahead of Ottawa. They're also only breaking even against the Metro, whereas Bos, TB, Tor, and even Buf are all getting more than 1 point per game when playing within that division.

They're only 2 points back of Toronto, and the Leafs have hardly been the model of consistency this year, so they're not dead.

This western road trip the Panthers have coming up next week is huge. It might be the perfect time for it, or it could kill their season. The Sharks, Ducks, and Kings are dead, Vegas has some heart, and the Coyotes are hanging on by a thread. They need to come home with at least 7 out of 10 possible points, before playing Toronto on the 27th. Toronto's next 6 before the Panthers include TB, Pit twice, and Carolina. That's a tougher week and a half.

The Leafs are really not as bad of a team as you would think. They have had a perfect storm go against them so far this season. They have: 1. Gotten brutal goaltending in every month of the season save November. 2. Played nearly half of their season up to date under Babcock and 3. Have yet to play a single game this season with a fully healthy roster, missing at least one of their top 4 D or top 6 F the whole time. With Mikheyev and Rielly being back in time for the playoffs in all likelihood they are not a team that anyone should want to play round 1.

Except maybe Boston though.

I think the general premise of your post is right though. The Leafs are in all likelihood a better team than their record indicates, it’s a deep and talented roster.

Toronto is more or less taking that spot just as much as Florida is giving it to them.
Toronto is 3-1-1 in their last 5.

This. Repeat the year with a reasonable amount of injuries and Keefe as the coach and this isn't even a race.
