Mete at 20 was frickin amazing. The kid has uber tools to be a first pairing in this league easily. He will only get better. great skater. smart with puck.
The offense will come and I'm glad he focused on what a D is supposed to do primarily. Defend and move the puck.
The criticism of him is just outright stupid. We got a good one. enjoy the kid for years to come. He's our Tory Krug. But has a higher ceiling maybe?

I don’t think his celling his has high as Krug especially offensively.

Would be nice,but maybe not as many points,already got the D down pretty good though. Still just a newbie so this year will interesting to see how that training went.

Mete will be fine. He is top-four material, anyway. He got already 120 games under his belt, 13th most in the 2016 group of draftees.

He's obviously not a legit first pairing guy, but he compliments Weber very well and they were excellent together the last couple months of the year.

It is similar to the Markov-Komisarek pairing in the past, Komisarek wasn't a top pairing guy but his physical play complimented Markov and he didn't look out of place and was able to play against other team's top lines.

He had only 3 less points at ES than guys like Fowler, Leddy and Brodin last year who are some of the names brought up as upgrades to play with Weber.

It's not obvious to me. Unless you mean at this present moment. Yeah not a legit 1st pairing guy at 20 but again how many are at that age? Even if he completely stalls out, which is possible but pretty damn unlikely, I think you can do a lot worse on a 2nd pairing.

The Komisarek comparison works a bit except that was prime Markov. Weber looked pretty ordinary down the stretch and Mete's far younger. Didn't seem like Weber was carrying Mete at that point.

It was quite the opposite, in fact. Mete carried Weber for a good portion of games I saw.

And by Julien on the Habs top shutdown pair at 20 years old, where he was a +17 on the year.

Too many armchair GMs around here dismiss his defensive ability because he’s 5’9 and expect him to turn into some dynamic PMD when that’s never been his game.

He’s a damn good hockey player as is.

If I were Mete I'd add Caufield to my friends to follow him. And stuff. If I were his coach I'd give him books to read, it's also in his mentality not to shoot. I bet they fixed it already, I'm excited for the results. Mete doesn't need to ace shooting, just not miss open nets and it's a start; then he can learn how to shoot to surprise in open space with more confidence.

Krug had his 4th 40 assist season in a row last year and his 3rd 50+ points season as well...

so you expect what ? 50 assists from Mete ?? 60 points ??

Maybe just a better defenseman. He won’t have Krug’s offence and that’s a guarantee.

Not sure he'll hit that point total but he'll start to get points and be a better overall D then Krug.
lets see anyway. I like his progression potential.

Krug has a bomb of a shot and is excellent offensively, that is NOTHING like Mete.

I think people are quick to dismiss Mete's offensive game just because of his goal drought.

Krug did not have an NHL goal either at the same age.

Not saying he'll be as good offensively as Krug, but I would not be surprised to see Mete be a 30-40 pts D in hs prime.

You see very little offense from Mete. I see more. And he's great in transition and moving pucks up and defending. So yea overall he will be better.

Lol Metes always in the offensive zone. The reason why yall stupid enough to whine about his shot is because hes in those situations, he doesnt get gifted with crazy one-timers from McDavid, he skates the puck up himself and creates chances.

Its crazy how bad the average hockey fan is at evaluating talent.

It's not a stretch to think Mete could get up in the Krug catagory at some point.
Victor had 15 goals his last year of junior and 44 points in 50 games.
Krug started his first full season with Boston at 23 years of age.
Where do you think Victor could be at that age?
20 years old is very tough to play D in the NHL. Forward is so much easier. I can see how a young kid just focuses on keeping it simple and he was great doing that.
It's very dumb to limit his offensive potential based on what a 20 year old kid shows in the NHL.

Don't need to know him personally to know who he is. For the record, he is an amazing offensive dynamo, which I doubt Victor Mete will ever become.
