I don't think there's money in owning an arena in Henderson. Its a weird vanity project to be honest. The Sharks had all the same ideas proposed here in the thread and none of them worked. The idea of giving fans a cheaper option, building a separate fan base, getting a benefit from having the kids in the building...and frankly none of them have panned out. I don't see a great infusion of youth since they started, the fan base is almost non existent and the crowds are a joke. They had a great opportunity to try to get into another building anywhere in the Bay Area that would have drawn better, expanded the fan base a little bit and given a nice alternative for fans. Orleans could accomplish that or the South Point could be a good option with some investment into ice there.

Sin City
South Point has dozens of high visibility events they hold. I don't know they'd have the space for 36+ games/season

The participation at CNA has exploded over three years, yet you say there is no interest in additional rinks like is in progress in Henderson?

:dunno:

The "Sharks Ice" facilities have the largest adult league participation in the US (not "hockey hotbeds" of Minnesota or Massachusetts). 4 rinks are full "all the time". Two more tinks will help out. Financially, the city (and Sharks who operate it) may not "make" big bucks on having a multi-thousand seat arena, but it will be well utilized, regardless.

An arena and ice rink are very different things. Arena won't be successful just hosting AHL games. They have to compete with an extremely tough market for events. They should build more rinks, but even a 5,000 seat arena like the Colorado Eagles use is going to be a tough proposition long term. Orleans makes sense to just keep long term as their home, central location, plenty of parking, great quality for the AHL. I don't see the need for their own unless Boyd's going to kick them out like the Wranglers

None of the casinos wanted people who aren't going to be gambling filling up their space so many nights.

Foley apparently has shown interest in both AHL and indoor lacrosse which both could use the arena. They probably hold other team events there on top of games. There's college basketball invitationals that love Vegas. There's smaller rodeo events going on.

They could absolutely hold more events than sports in these arenas, the Eastside cannery gets concerts, conventions are all around the valley, there's low level MMA and pro wrestling events that come through town, I'm sure they could find events for the arena.

I like Silver Squires better than Silver Knights. They are not Knights yet and it’s also more alliterative.

I suppose we could go even more so in that direction and call them the Sin City Silver Squires.

"Hockey will never work in the desert."

I, for one, would become a STH again. For the AHL team.

West Henderson is hoping to end up like a Downtown Summerlin type area. The ballpark is working fantastically out there, and I think an arena in the newest area of Henderson would as well. I get the Orleans is a more convenient location though.

But talk of a new arena is that it would be near the Faders' practice facility, not downtown Hendertucky.

Right, it will be in West Henderson near the Executive Airport, M Resort, Inspirada. What I meant to say is Henderson would like to build a Downtown Summerlin-esque development in the new West Henderson. There would be a sports component to it as there is in Downtown Summerlin.

And Downtown Hendertucky has the Ice Center going up now. They are pouring concrete like crazy.

Vegas has purchased San Antonio.

Vegas Golden Knights Purchase AHL Franchise Membership

Credit to @TheLegend for the above post and link that I stole from him in the AHL forum.

No problem. :thumbu:

The AHL has literally exploded in the Southwest with NHL teams buying in.

Add in Seattle’s affiliate coming to Palm Springs within the next couple of years and you will have:

Bakersfield Condors (Oilers)
Henderson Silver Knights (Golden Knights)
Ontario Reign (Kings)
Palm Springs (Seattle)
San Diego Gulls (Ducks)
Tucson Roadrunners (Coyotes)

Add in Stockton (Flames) and San Jose (Sharks) and you really have something.

Living in Kingman and coming to at least 30 VGK games a year, I'd love having an AHL team in Henderson, it's even closer for me. I'd certainly purchase tickets and am mulling over getting some season tickets as well.
