Vegas had injuries and personnel out. They're fine. I don't THINK they will be the playoff world beaters of last year, but they're a very good team.

Nate Schmidt's absence was huge for them. Also nice to have a 2nd line C now too.

Medium-term, expect GMGM to mess it up if he stays too long.

Have hard time think them going down, when the organization has drafted Erik Brännström, Gody Glass and Nick Suzuki level of guys.

If the current core regresses a bit, those will bump it up again.

Success will be long-term.

Vegas with Nate Schmidt on the ice: +11 goals (+35-24)
Vegas without Nate Schmidt on the ice: -2 goals. (+88-90)

Guy is good.

And the start of the season is very misleading of their level. They had bigger SC final hangover than the Caps did.

Suzuki will be a Hab once he comes to NHL, as he was part of Pacioretty deal.

If they sign Gusev next season, they will be even better... Do they need him, though? And Gusev doesn't speak English, and they don't have any Russians.

The team also played a ton of road games earlier in the season. The team will be at home a lot more in the 2nd half of the schedule.

San Jose
They had a pretty meh start and I think a lot of people wrote them off. Currently tied for 1st in the west and tied 4th in the NHL.
They've played more games, so they're only tied for 10th in the league in terms of points percentage, which is probably a better metric of assessing where they are right now. Still, very nice turnaround from the early season. The Pacific in general is looking at lot more dangerous than it was a couple months ago.

San Jose will beat Vegas before that happens.

Last year was a fluke.

Was it? They had a slow start this season but have shown that same hard working, resilient style win or loss that made them successful last year. Regardless, expect a tough out again come the playoffs.

Still not over that loss huh?

The fact that they are 1st in the west again after people tried to claim last year was nothing but a "fluke" kinda disproves that theory.
Not to mention San Jose isn't exactly some unstoppable juggernaut this year either.

Even though the Knights have played the most games in the league, it is definitely worth noting that they have played 24 games on the road and only 18 at home.
