And be cap compliant?

I can't access the site right now so thank you!

Dom had said Ottawa was sniffing around for help and given his history with them they made sense.

There is still the possibility of him being traded but like you said before, we may be looking at retention which is not ideal.

I'd rather tough moves be made now versus a month from now when McAvoy and Marchand are ready to return. I worry about another Boychuck situation where it really impacted the room
Capfriendly says we would be

Yes I believe it’s better under the cap and not have to use LTIR

And we still need to clear like 2.5 million to be under the 82.5 if we weren’t planning on using LTIR

OTT is fairly strong at LD and didn't have the cap to afford Reilly if there was a need.

CHI could've, and I can see a case for "Hey let's claim him and dump him with retention at the deadline". But not sure they'd want to retain for an extra year. Plus remember, teams have a limit on how many contracts they can retain on. A team like ARI already has vets of their own they will try and trade later on so there's a limit to how many of those types of guys you want.
Chicago claimed Tinordi so that tells you what they’re trying to do this year

At the end of the day, the Bruins are a stronger team with all these guys right now. If they want to upgrade at the deadline, you just send one of those contracts going the other way. Foligno can get a $7.6m player at 50% retained. Heck, if two team retain, that's enough space for Kane or Toews.

If Reilly is not claimed, then once Cmac is back, I think Forbort could be traded.
Why?

I'm not much of a Forbort fan, but his "skill set" -- shot blocking and PK specialist -- adds a dimension to the defensive corps they otherwise lack. For that reason, I don't think the B's would trade him.

Reilly not only has value as a smooth passing offensive D, but he also makes relatively $$ dough (yes, so does Forbort), and Gryz shares his skill set and is a better player overall.
I'm afraid this is the case. Figured if there was a market for him, he could've at least returned a late round pick. Unless all GMs knew this would be a great year to grab help on the waiver wire with so many teams up against the cap. I'll be pleasantly surprised if he gets taken. I don't hate the player (also don't love) but getting rid of one of him or Foligno would really help the cap situation when Mac+March come back, and we know no one is taking Foligno.

...Unless Tortorella wants him to work on the locker room/culture in Philly.
That would be great for all concerned.

Torts has turned locker room's around before, but his comments earlier in preseason suggest he's got a lot of work to do. Nick could really help with that. Simmonds (sic) can threaten the recalcitrant, too.

At least he seems to have a good attitude about it. Say what you want about his play, but it's hard not to feel bad for the guy. It's just like Backes.

Foligno appears to be reacting much better than Backes. At least post-retirement interviews suggest Backes was fairly bitter and tried to get Bruins' leadership to say something to Cassidy.

What’s the next move, package a 3rd with Foligno and send him to Philly?

A third wouldn't do it. Next move is to LTIR McAvoy and Marchand to get cap compliant now. Wait another 6 weeks and see if another injury necessitates LTIR in which case we may be cap compliant when McAvoy/Marchand return.

In the meantime, we may want to pump and dump on Foligno. Get him playing respectable, and we could offload him for a later pick.

Naaah Backes was team first all the way, even when dicked around and over - maybe even too much so for his own and the teams own good.

Not surprised they all cleared as teams are all trying to get cap compliant for the start of the season. Would of been nice but the other teams also know the predicament Sweeney and the Bruins are in.

Simple as this, those players aren’t worth their salaries and only ways they are going is we are giving up an asset or eating some of their salary.
