If we want to subjective this is more of an issue of the fact that the bruins didn't make a pick greater than 30th during those 3 years.

Here are the total games played from picks 1st-29th for the '18, '19, and '20 draft classes using Elite Prospects as a source.

2018: 2972 games played by 1st-29th
2019: 1626 games played by 1st-29th
2020: 885 games played by 1st-29th

So this is about giving away two 1sts and a 2nd over the course of 3 years.

Sweeney gets a lot of flack for the 2015 draft, and much is deserved, for drafting for position of need, instead of best available player. Zboril was the top-rated dman (rated as the 4th best dman) when it was their turn to draft, although the gap to the top 3 dmen was huge, and that's why Sweeney tried so hard to move up to draft either Hanifin, Provorov, or Werenski.

I included the year before Sweeney was named GM, because of the appointment of Keith Gretzky. Gretzky had a dramatic effect on the 2014 draft. Considering all the flack that Sweeney gets about the 2015 draft, 5 players from that draft are playing in the NHL. The top 3 picks from 2016 (including 2 top-pairing dmen) and top 3 from 2017 are or will be in the NHL this year.

From the more recent drafts, the results look very promising (e.g., Lysell, Lohrei, and Beecher). Because da Broons draft so many college-bound players, in order to be fair, you have to give them time to play 3 to 4 years in college before they turn pro. And absolutely, it's fair to state, as another poster did, that because da Broons draft so late each round, it's harder to have a player make the team in the first couple of years, even if they didn't go to college to play 3 or 4 years. And of course, he traded several first-round picks.

Not saying that Sweeney is a great GM, but trying to provide an overall picture of his drafting.

does clearing waivers mean the 3 could play in the NHL at the reduced cap hit for the next 10 days or whatever? or does the cap savings only apply if they are assigned to Providence?

I wonder if we don’t sign Stralman now that Reilly cleared

I gotta say, I prefer Lindholm away from McAvoy.

With Mac, he’s a complimentary piece. Away from Mac he’s a dynamic play driver. He was all over the rink against NJ, the play seemed to run through him.

Plus, it means either Mac or Lindholm is on the ice the entire game.

If Monty agrees it could be the reason we’re seeing the Lindholm-Carlo pair so much.

I’m hoping they can be the new Chara-Seidenberg.

We’re a better team with them apart, anchoring different pairings to eat almost all of the games minutes, but we always have the option to put them together if we’re facing a top-heavy team in the playoffs.

Even with them apart, mix either pairing with 37/63 and not much is going to be happening in our defensive zone.

Depends on the team. I honestly thought he'd be gone with Chicago and Ottawa looking for help.
OTT is fairly strong at LD and didn't have the cap to afford Reilly if there was a need.

CHI could've, and I can see a case for "Hey let's claim him and dump him with retention at the deadline". But not sure they'd want to retain for an extra year. Plus remember, teams have a limit on how many contracts they can retain on. A team like ARI already has vets of their own they will try and trade later on so there's a limit to how many of those types of guys you want.

Capfriendly has us with 27 guys right now so

Send to Providence
Filipe
Wagner
Lauko

IR
McAvoy
Marchand

That takes us down to 22

Sign Stralman brings us back to 23
And be cap compliant?

I can't access the site right now so thank you!

Dom had said Ottawa was sniffing around for help and given his history with them they made sense.

There is still the possibility of him being traded but like you said before, we may be looking at retention which is not ideal.

I'd rather tough moves be made now versus a month from now when McAvoy and Marchand are ready to return. I worry about another Boychuck situation where it really impacted the room
