Ottawa and Detroit need to take look at their blueline and ask if they're seriously competing this year. Reilly would be on the second pair on both teams.

At least he seems to have a good attitude about it. Say what you want about his play, but it's hard not to feel bad for the guy. It's just like Backes.

Backes was not pleased with Cassidy. Nor was he pleased with Sweeney/Neely. I think he felt as though he was misled.

A lot of players have a hard time accepting that. It is what it is. I think there’s some truth to it, how much who knows.

Why?

I'm not much of a Forbort fan, but his "skill set" -- shot blocking and PK specialist -- adds a dimension to the defensive corps they otherwise lack. For that reason, I don't think the B's would trade him.

Reilly not only has value as a smooth passing offensive D, but he also makes relatively $$ dough (yes, so does Forbort), and Gryz shares his skill set and is a better player overall.

That would be great for all concerned.

Torts has turned locker room's around before, but his comments earlier in preseason suggest he's got a lot of work to do. Nick could really help with that. Simmonds (sic) can threaten the recalcitrant, too.

I said maybe Forbort of Reilly is not claimed. If Reilly could be had for free and teams pass, then I doubt a team would trade for him, but maybe they would for Forbort.

I think some of it stems from him believing he was signing here as a center maybe? I remember there being some confusion early on
