Proposal: Trade Thread #65

If you could get Hall with an extension, what's the maximum number of years you would extend him?

He has one 5v5 primary assist since the end of 2018-2019 season. I've posted before that Gostisbehere is probably hurt by playing under Vigneault, but unless you're expecting a PP specialist that can move the puck well that doesn't play defence, you'll be disappointed.
He's M-A Bergeron 2.0

Heard on TSN690 that a Philadelphia insider has said that the reason they placed Ghost on waivers is to create cap space for a big trade.

Ghost is interesting. He looked so good a few years back and then got hurt and hasn't really been the same since. At one point the 4.5 million number looked like a real bargain.

He's obviously lost his coach's confidence and it's time for him to move on. But he does have talent and could very well turn things around elsewhere.

Would've been great if we could've swapped contracts with Philly to get him. I'd definitely trade Chiarot for him.

if the flyers retain to match Chiarot's 3.5M, i'd do it... but would much rather send Byron the other way.

the worry isn't so much rolling the dice on Gost bouncing back with a change of scenery (and, hopefully, finding a nice complimentary chemistry playing with Weber that allows him to handle 19-20min/night reliably)...

the worry is moreso that finding a much cheaper vet reclamation option via UFA this summer is a strong likelihood... so why roll the dice on Gost unless it lets us shed Byron's cap hit in the process.

I think it's more likely we see KK on the 4th line TBH with Staal in the top 6 or 9.

Drouin Suzuki Anderson
Tatar Danault Gally
Toffoli Staal Armia
Lehkonen/Byron KK Perry

that would be my guess and judging how KK is used, I think it's pretty accurate. I don't get why KK doens't get the top 6 minutes I think he deserved and showed he can handle but that's been the pattern so far. That being said, that is a DEEP lineup with size and skill on all 4 lines that you can roll where any line can be the #1 line on any given night.

I don't think Ducharme is dumb enough to do that. He may try it. But I don't think it would stick.

Tatar-Danault-Gallagher have been going good. He didn't want to break them up. It's not as big of a deal as people are making it out to be, even if I disagree with it.

Same organization that watched Galchenyuk score 30 at C then moved him back to the wing LMAO are you surprised?

He was a C after that 30 goal season - he just actually showed subsequently he wasn't any good at the position.

I’d rather see Staal as a centre. I don’t think the team can rely on Evans at this point and I don’t trust him for the playoffs.

I'd personally rather get the top 9 going. They're not lighting it up.

If Staal shines in the top 9 on the wing, I could see MB getting another cheap 4c. But things would really have to progress quickly for him to make that happen. If it were up to me I'd already be looking for one.

Eh, theres no chance Staal plays wing for Kotkaniemi.

This line is slow, also.

True about the speed. I could also see:

Staal Suzuki Anderson
Drouin KK Toffoli

But we'll see how things play out on the ice chemistry wise and what Ducharme wants to try out. He's certainly no where near as static as CJ.

Ghost is the exact type of defenceman bergevin hates
True........MB loves those slow, big and lumbering kind of guys..........the type that can throw the puck in his own net, now and then...Some philly fans say he has been there 3rd best dman.
Philly fans do not understand this move at all, but it could be needed to facilitate something much bigger.

Really is that what Romanov is? I don’t ever recall MB pimping Tinordi, Emelin etc...only Romanov

I agree the focus should be getting a really good left handed pmd, even if it means trading some really good assets. When Petry is on the ice we're a totally different team, adding a similar player would really make us better.
i agree. Give up a first rounder, a second rounder and either Harris/Struble and that should get it done if Preds want to pack it in.

I know I said earlier that I'm not Ghost biggest fans but what about a deal that included Ghost and Byron ?

Byron is a friend of Claude Giroux and his biggest fan is in the Flyers coaching staff. There contract finish the same year and Byron could help Philly PK who struggle.
Fans always suggest trading Byron as if other teams would actually have an interest in a guy who contributes little and costs a lot.
Now trading bad contract for bad contract is another thing.

Survey in the athletic said the Habs had the best D in the North division. ARe the others that bad? Cause I dont think ours is that great.

One thing we have going for us is a big heavy D that's set up for the playoffs AND we dont have to worry about 3 on 3 hockey with all the figure skaters skating past our lumber jacks.

All the talking heads have been saying so without a moments hesitation - and I think why they say so is the belief, the Habs D is built for playoff hockey - tighter checking, higher intensity, refs put whistles away etc..

Absolutely agree, we do seem to have that type of D. That being said, these guys tend to watch the habs only when we play the leafs....our D can have some pretty rough nights, but then again so can the other teams.

Tighter checking, higher intensity, harder forecheck... What could go wrong for our four defenders that can't get the puck out when Milan Lucic is forechecking them.

Lmao, delusional, so delusional.

I was shocked last week when McGuire said the Habs main focus for deadline should be a scoring LW, followed up by “once Chiarot gets back healthy they should be set at D for the playoffs”

Who of Leafs, Jets, Edm has Lucic or anyone close to said player’s characteristics on their team? All play wide open skating hockey..
