Newbury is one of the last players we should call up again.

Mashinter, would be my guess for next in line?

Really wish Hrivik hadn't gotten concussed.

Boychuk may be more talented than Newbury, but not a better fit for where the Rangers need help now.....I'm interested in shoring up the 2013 NHL Rangers right now, Boychuik won't help one iota...You want him for the future and he's available, no problem..but he ain't helping the Rngers this year...We already have better options..eveen if they are bad ones

I don't see any better options.

For the 4th line? Of course NHL vets is my preference becasue I really don't want to bring up kids...And i don't know the injury situations of Jean and Hrivik. But I' still try the latter as well as Newbury, Mashinter, maybe Thomas before Boychuk..Granted, none are great options.

We have a fundamental disagreement. Newbury brings absolutely nothing to the team. Don't think Mashinter is anything special. Thomas isn't ready. Would rather roll the dice on the former first round pick who needs a change of scenery.

That we do. Don't get me wrong, I don't think ANY of these guys are special or really a fit for the 4th line...OH well, it's what happens when you don't have enough depth to start the season...And Until we sign somebody, it's looking like the answer will be GILROY anyway!

Looks like Andrei Loktionov has requested a trade from LA. Would anyone be interested? Undersized but skilled 2-way forward.

Torts could get good mileage out of Loktionov, IMO. He plays a good two-way game and has enough skill that he could play on the third line. Not a long term fixture, but a guy who would provide depth and help while we nurse injuries.

Defense.

The Rangers need another lefty. Chris Butler has played in 2 of the Flames 4 games. Healthy scratch. Butler is playing tonight. Calgary has 7 healthy D. Babchuk is injured. Weidman and Sarich are their righties. Bouwmeester,Giordano,Brodie,Butler and Smith are their lefties. Butler or Smith would be upgrades over Bickel. The Rangers brought Bickel back because they want to work with him. Torts said before the season, the Rangers want Bickel to be a D which is why they called up Segal for the Boston game with the Asham suspension. Bickel played 1:52 last night as the 6th D. McDonagh played more minutes last night than Bickel has played in the 5 games he has been dressed this season. :)

Butler has a cap hit of $1.25M. Group II this summer. Arbitration eligible.

Smith has a cap of $775,000. Signed for next season.

Loktionov

Good - Dynamic offensive player, good compete level, young.

Bad - Small, gets banged around, high price tag

Zucc 2.0 ?

Not really too interested in paying a high round pick or one of our top prospects.

I totally agree. The fact that Sather and Torts have not been able to bring in anyone who can at least play 10 minutes consistently a night is baffling to me.

I would do a player in Connecticut who has marginal upside. Bourque or someone like that. I would be surprised if they can't get more.

I remember Lokti was gonna be a centerpiece in the Kovalchuk to LA deal a while back. Man, why couldn't have Lombardi ponied up then? We wouldn't have to see Kovalchuk for the next 17 years.

Loktionov is not exactly Zucc sized and I really don't think the price tag would be that high at all. He's also a better defensive player than offensive player. He has good hands, but he's been a PK specialist in the AHL, I'm fairly certain.

Listed at 5'11 177 and 22 years old versus Zuccarello at a generous 5'7 and 25 years old, he's nowhere near as small. He could do with adding quite a bit of muscle, but he has an inherent reach that Zucc can never have.

I sincerely hope the Rangers don't play Bickel/Gilroy at forward for (2) weeks.....

Yeah, I desperately want Lokti. 2nd Rounder in 2014, get it done Slats. Versatile player that plays C and played LW for the Kings during the playoffs.
