it's not even about caring, it's more how is it even possible to make meaningful moves unless we move those players, which we wont?

Spezza (NTC), Turris, Ryan, Zibanejad, MacArthur (NTC), Smith, Lazar, 1st rounder '15
Karlsson, Methot, Ceci,
Lehner, Andy

Those are our most valuable assets, who among these are we willing to move?

I would be okay moving these guys, Andy is hardly a valuable asset right now. Maybe the Rangers would do a trade revolving around Nash and MDZ for Spezza and one of Gryba or Wier? I'm just spit balling here since, Nash's contract is bad and Spezza is probably worth more than both MDZ and Nash combined.

I say blow it up at the deadline.

Finish season with this

MacArthur/Turris/Ryan
Hoffman/Zibanejad/Stone
Kassian/Da Costa/JOB
Petersson/Pageau/Prince

Methot/Karlsson
Edler/Shattenkirk
Wiercioch/Gryba

Lehner
Lindback

OUT:
Spezza, Neil, Phillips, Michalek, Greening, Corvo, Cowen, Conacher, Anderson, Smith

In:
Shattenkirk, Edler,
Our 1st, Boston 1st, Tampa first, PHX 2nd, Pitts 2nd,

Next year we will have the room to go after another top 6 forward.

The first rebuild didn't work. We made the playoffs and then our owner put a budget on the team when we should be on the way up.

Go back under budget, complete the rebuild, the new TV deals will fix the budget issue. 2 years we are back competing.

Trade: Spezza, Michalek, Condra, Greening, Kassian

Dont care: Ryan, Neil, Conacher, Cowen, Wiercioch, Phillips, Gryba, Anderson

Do not trade: Turris, MacArthur, Smith, Zibanejad, Pageau, Karlsson, Lehner, Methot

Ryan really would depend on the return. His upcoming UFA status is a bit scary.

Gotta choose between Wiercioch and Cowen. Too many LD's.

Spezza will only move if he wants to.

Too early to give up on Cowen.

MacArthur has been a pleasant surprise. He's the kind of guy you try to keep.

We'll be lucky to give Greening away for nothing.

Conacher & Smith....why?

Neil, Phillips, Michalek, Corvo (worthless) and Anderson...by all means. Trade them all.

I say blow it up at the deadline.

Spezza to the Blues for Shattenkirk and 1st (we retain 50% of Spezza's hit)
Michalek to the Yotes for a 2nd
Neil, Smith to the Nucks for Edler
Phillips to Boston for 1st (conditioned on them making the SCF. 2nd if they do not)
Corvo, Greening to Penguins for 2nd
Cowen + Blues first to Ducks for our 1st back.
Anderson, Conacher to Lightning for Lindback and 1st.

I love this suggestion. The D looks great, the Fwds are green as hell, but it's like 1/2 of a(nother) rebuild done straight away.

Second part we could use a 1st and Wiercioch to get Evander Kane. Sign Callahan.

2014/15

Clarke MacArthur / Kyle Turris / Bobby Ryan
Evander Kane / Mika Zibanejad / Ryan Callahan
Shane Prince / Sam Reinhart / Erik Condra
Mike Hoffman / Jean-Gabriel Pageau / Mark Stone

Alexander Edler / Erik Karlsson
Marc Methot / Kevin Shattenkirk
Mark Borowiecki / Cody Ceci

Robin Lehner
Anders Lindback

The Caphit is 59M, but that is just the Cap, not the actual salary, it would be closer to 53M in Salary. Giving us room to resign Ryan, Methot and MacArthur.

and the 1st overall pick

You know, any team that gets the first overall in 2015 has the rare opportunity to have a Pittsburgh/Chicago style rebuild.

People can talk glowingly about the first overall guys from the past few years, but the only quick rebuild centering around a first overall pick occurs maybe once every 10-15 years.

Still not quite 100% convinced on McDavid...yet (this WJC tourney will go a long way to see where he's at compared to the generational talents), but he's the closest bet to be The One since Crosby.

Whatever team gets him will be incredibly lucky. It'll be very interesting to see how teams (and managements) maneuver next year. Expect some shenanigans within the NHL.

Ryan Callahan is exactly what this team needs. Guy is a warrior. I'd love to get him but the Rangers asking price would be too high.

And, for the love of the hockey gods, stay away from Del Zotto. The guy has the mental strength of jello. He'd completely fall apart in a Canadian market.

Toews/Kane
Crosby/Malkin
Stamkos/Drouin
Landeskog/Mackinnon/

These teams have tanked and tanked hard, been real bad for multiple years, picked in the top 5 multiple times

Probably unrealistic but I love this team. 4 lines that can drive possession and score goals, plus a d core that can actually move the puck.

Anchoring lines with guys like Neil and Kassian is a waste these days.

I think Edmonton holds the current record for tanking hard and hording top picks. Things don't always work out as well as they did in Pitts or Chi.

I think Edmonton is a whole different ball of wax, they should be better than what they are. I mean if they would have picked Seth Jones or traded the first for a goalie, they would be vastly better this year.

Edmonton has a very long list of issues that flow from management down. My point is simply that it is unrealistic to assume that just because you end up with a top pick your team will automatically improve. Pitts and Chi are also a very different ball of wax from the Sens because they are amazing organizations from ownership down.
