why would they move Girard and how are these pieces better than Drouin?

Im saying if they wanted to trade for Drouin, they certainly could. Between their prospects pool, roster players and picks, there’s enough their to acquire Drouin.

I wouldn’t trade Suzuki. Just keep stockpiling. One more this year would be golden
Him too. I have a good feeling about him. I think we’re set on offense for a while. Kotkaniemi, Caufield, Suzuki, Domi, Poehling, Gallagher, Drouin, Danault, Tatar, etc. That’s a great.

Caufield doesn’t need to be included.

I like the idea of starting with Drouin and Suzuki and then perhaps a pick, and try to limit the damage from there.
I’d prefer to keep Caulfield as well, but with Laine we have that sniping right hand shot we need making CC expendable.

in Chiarot’s photos there is empty stall next to Weber with a helmet above #47. Who is that for? Nobody on the team has that number. Later when interviewing Chariot with the media the stalls are rearranged and now Petry is next the Weber.
Do I have the summer crazies?

You know he's an MB kind of guy when he can keep his arms crossed while giving a manly handshake.

I would trade Drouin and Tatar when those kids are ready. I see our future top 9 as something like:

X - Kotkaniemi - Caufield
Domi - Poehling - Suzuki
X - Danault - Gallagher

We need to surround these core guys above with some physicality and Drouin/Tatar for me are expendable. Hopefully we get a top line power forward in the 2020 draft and the third line guy can be a cheap Maroon-like player with size. Drouin/Tatar can help round out the defense.

IF ONLY we would offer sheet or trade for Matt Tkachuk now that they have 4.5M for two players.

Laine - Kotkaniemi - Suzuki
Domi - Poehling - Caufield
Ylönen - Danault - Gallagher

This offense would be pretty sick. Drouin, Fleury, Juulsen, a 1st and 2 2nds for Laine.

We already have a power forward prospect in Teasdale. I prefer Ylönen though.

if MB ever offered that to winnipeg for Laine they would never answer his calls again,

so winnipeg gets one slacker of a winger and a bunch of maybes for Laine who has scored over 100 goals before he is 22 years old......yeah sure

if these are the types of offers MB makes, then i understand why his "trades don't happen"

a Laine trade starts with KK and a first rounder +....and thats where the conversation ends on MB's part

keep dreaming, its not happening

Teasdale won’t make the NHL as a top 9

This looks good only if the prospects pan out to the top of their potential. Habs looked promising with Koivu, Higgins, Kostitsyn, Latendresse, Grabovski, Perezhogin, Plekanec, Ryder ++ ...

I would move Juulsen, Drouin, Danault*

*once Poehling is ready for 3C

I feel like we have some decent pieces, that though while probably undervalued on the main boards have value in reality.

Juulsen to Winnipeg would make sense for both sides, obviously isn’t a main piece in a Laine deal but still would make a lot of sense

I think it's rather presumptuous on your part thinking you can doubt shift X that easily and have him produce at the level we need him to produce. ;)

Montreal trades Paul Byron and Noah Juulsen to Calgary for TJ Brodie and Michael Frolik.

Calgary fends off offer sheets to Matthew Tkachuk by freeing up more than $5M in cap space, giving them about $10M to work with. They re-acquire Byron to play top 9 and PK, add speed, secondary scoring. At $3.4 M for 4 more years, the Flames gain cost certainty. They add Juulsen, who slots in on the 3rd pair and gives them another young, cost certain player that they have team control over.

Flames give up 2 UFAs in Brodie and Frolik. Frolik fell out of favour under Peters, playing around 13min a night. He's likely the first to go when Tkachuk gets signed as he's too expensive for that role. Brodie is a UFA and with the expansion draft coming, one of Hanafin, Giordano, Hamonic, or Brodie would be likely left exposed. Allows Calgary to get ahead of this and start turning over the D to Andersen, Valimaki, Juulsen, etc.

Montreal gets a true top 4 LHD that is mobile and can play big minutes. I know he's more comfortable on the right side but this proposal banks on the Canadiens pro scouts determining that Brodie can play at a high level on the left side. Frolik is a negative asset in the trade due to his cap hit but likely fills a top 9 or depth role just fine for one year.

If Brodie works out you can sign long term and keep team control. Same with Frolik, really, though he's likely to have to take a paycut, whereas Brodie would see a significant raise.

Flames clear cap space, allowing them to sign/match Matt Tkachuk up to $10M, gaining 2 players under team control. Montreal gets the best player (on an expiring contract) and cap flexibility.

I like the idea of this trade as a pre-emptive move made to insulate the Flames against an offer sheet. But it could work in the 7 days after an offer sheet is signed as well.

MB still made an offer, which contradict the all grind low skill argument.

Come on now, that’s not valid. I can offer a high end escort a hundred bucks for services, but I doubt I’ll get much of a response...But I can say I tried after and that’s what counts for many in the new “everyone gets a trophy for participating” era.
