Realistically, it makes more sense to let this season happen and trade Krug next year when you have an idea of how much he wants for an extension and how the kids are developing.

We could have our top 6 winger for free this off season or have one in the system already. Trading Krug now could mess with the whole locker room

I don't think so. Krug is good on offense, we know. But, he's no Matt Griz on defense, that we also know. We also know how deep our D is when we start getting bodies back. Yes, the Bruins are desperate for offense, especially RW and Center but there must be other teams who are desperate for what Krug brings. If Sweeney makes a legitimate offer for a Center or RH right wing to a team that's heavy in that area and just as desperate isn't it a wash for both desperate teams?

According to cap friendly, yes he does.
Ya thought so.

Was it his that kicked in over the summer? That would’ve been when to dealvhim.

Kind of surprised he wasn’t to be honest. Still thin Neely wants to cook him. And eat him.

Edit thin and Neely wasn’t on purpose. But I’m going to let it simmer a bit

Where IS the offense ?

In Krug's last 89 NHL games he has 75 points (reg + playoffs).....

I agree he has value AND the Bruins are well off on the left side. You better get value back. If you pick an expendable player out of your lineup and offer him around the league, not sure you're going to get what you want, especially when trying to make the so called "hockey trade".

With his contract and play these past two seasons, I also wonder if Grzlyck should be your chip to play with. He pretty much fits with all teams, at all stages. Whether you are rebuilding, re-tooling, or going for it. Obviously you'd need something significant in return. Young skating top-4 D on a sweetheart contract. Just saying, if I'm another GM, that's the guy I'd want if I'm giving up a young C or RW. I want a young proven (ish) D in exchange. With a little bit of controlability.

Thing is I would imagine bruins want Gryz because he will be cheaper on his next deal, where Krug will be commanding at least $6.5mil per year. I don’t see the bruins offering him another contract in two off seasons. So if you deal Gryz you could potentially be without krug and Gryz. Ya krug puts up a ton of points, but he is a liability in the defensive end.

I would much rather move Krug in the off season when I believe he only has a partial no trade clause and keep a cheaper Gryz. Gryz contract will likely be half or even less than half of Krugs next deal.

Which is precisely another reason why he would hold more value to many other GM's looking to make a deal...

Of course the Bruins would want to move the older, more expensive player, with less of a long term outlook.... Good luck getting a fair offer that is anything other than futures (picks and prospects) or similar short term options with regards to Krug. I could be wrong, but I feel like the teams bidding for his services would be unlikely to give up significant roster players in return.

The Bruins don't currently have many long term commitments on the backend to veteran players. In fact, by the time Krug is due for a contract, Chara and Miller are both likely off the books. And if Grzelyck continues trending in this current direction, he's probably going to triple his annual earnings. Due for a raise same time as Krug turns UFA.

Just thinking if you're feeling ballsy enough to project the long term outlook of Lauzon, Vaakanainen, Zboril etc, maybe Grzelyck is your chip. Meanwhile you could still theoretically have Chara/Krug/Moore on the left side for the foreseeable future.... with the other three banging on the door.

I agree the time to deal Krug is in the off-season. Would be completely fine taking the Lucic route and cashing out.

Sorry I’m not giving up gryz who will command probably $3.5mil a season on his next deal then going into 2020 having Carlo and Mcavoy be the oldest guys on the defense once Krug leaves and Moore inevitably gets selected by the expansion team.

I would rather move krug and get whatever we can for him as opposed to seeing him walk for nothing. If a team trades us picks and prospects for krug, even better because that frees up $5.25 million to spend on a free agent or to bring in on another trade.

I’ll take the $5.25 million in cap space along with prospects and draft picks, while retaining gryz.

But how can you say that not knowing what the return could be??? I would trade anyone on this roster if the return is right.

They Bruins have needs now and needs long term. Just saying if you want that player via trade, be prepared to give up something you don't want to lose.... Grzelyck has turned into one of my favorites, but if he's the piece that's needed to be included to get a top-6 C of similar age.... See ya.

I’m just saying if I had the choice of moving one player, krug or gryz I would move krug first.

This absolutely, we have enough young talent to handle losing Grz, I could see the team not having room for either in a few years with the way the young D are developing. That being said I would rather use Krug in a trade as I think Grz will be more affordable and I don't think he has more value than Krug even being cost controlled for longer, Krug has proven to be a top scoring D in this league and those guys have a ton of value, especially for one competent defensively like Krug.

It almost looks like he’s slower now then he was before the ankle injuries. Last night was a good example of the risk/reward play that Krug gives you: scores on his own team and makes some brutal giveaways but hey, he got a secondary assist on the power play.

yeah, he totally got a gift assist for preventing the clearing, carrying the puck across the zone, and firing the pass to an open Pastrnak setting up the cross ice movement that ended with Marchand on the door step with an open net

I literally just watched the highlights and if that's how you think the goal happened then you should watch them too cause it looked a lot like he shot the puck in from the blue line and it went off a shin pad and popped up to Pasta

much like I`m confused and perplexed by the love Cehlarik gets here, I`m equally so with the hate Krug gets

I`ve posed the question often, not once have I received an answer. IF the B`s were to move on from him, who steps up and provides what he provides from the back end offensively understanding his warts defensively?

Right now, like all the D, he`s playing in a spot he shouldn`t be and it shows more, when the D is healthy, he`d slide back into his ideal spot and the matchups far more to his advantage

I can envision a time when CM does but is he there yet? Nope, so, who provides the production from the D which is, IMO, vital?

Bruins had the perfect 5 and 6 D-men in Krug and McQuaid. Krug double duty on the PP and McQuaid toughness and PK. Same people here who had Krug in the top 4 now want to trade him. Since the Bruins can only score on the PP they better hang on to him. Bruins in the bottom 5 in the league in even strength goals for

yep, last year, the B`s D combined for 162 pts, Krug with 59 of those, that`s a significant loss of production on the back end unless they would be replacing him with an equally good offensive D man back there and who could that be that`s available out there?

It is hard to find defensemen who can create chances offensively consistently as does Krug.

I'd be very wary at this point of trading him especially given the Bruins top-heavy forward lines.

You have to take the bad with the good with Krug. He's not anywhere close to a shutdown d-man, so there are going to be times he is overmatched. Some of that can be remedied by playing with the right partner and not being put on a pairing above where he should be. But here's the thing about Krug -- his passing skills are as good as any D-man in the NHL. His ability to put the puck where it needs to go through traffic is unreal. He has set up so many great scoring chances this season that were screwed up by the shooter that it's not even funny. He moves the puck incredibly well in the Ozone and is superb in transition. He made an incredibly bone-headed pass last night, however that is the exception rather than the norm. If it's game 7 for the Cup and I can choose one d-man in the NHL to make a difficult pass to set up a goal with time running out there is no doubt in my mind I would choose Krug. Much like Krejci, Krug makes tricky passes look easy, and makes passes that 90% of NHL players can't even pull off except every blue moon. I'm not saying Krug is untouchable, but folks need to understand what will be lost if Krug is gone.

I noticed that too; its like his stride has been a little different.
Two years ago I thought Krug was one of our best defenseman but in the last year it feels like he’s gotten slower and worse defensively. Hopefully that will change when Carlo comes back.
