clicked on this thread in a little over a week Krug went from being at the top of his game and a core part of the team to being a traffic cone & turnstile.

normally i'd chock it up to people here being too reactionary, but I think the up & down nature of the last couple pages pretty well represents how up & down Krug's game can be.
He’s always my first thought if the Bruins are scored on lol. Hmmm, is Krug out there?

Held that title last year as well.

2 years ago I believe Miller was my runaway winner.

Need to name it. Maybe the Wideman Award. Goes to the man most likely to have bad things happen to the team while on the ice. Responsible or not.

I’ll say this. That pairing of him and Moore has got to go. Try him with his former Wideman award winner for a bit. See if they can play a little steadier back there.

Just out of curiosity

how many folks would like the Bruins to resign Krug after his current deal expires?

Well obviously depends on cost right? But if we assume he gets the kind of money point producing Dmen typically get, I would prefer we didn’t sign him. This is why I’d be looking to move him either now or in the offseason.

Krug once was reliable on offense and serviceable on defense.

But this year, he has been largely unreliable on offense and very weak on defense.

I would not re-sign him and feel that it would be better to trade him, possibly with Chara for a top scoring winger. If possible.

Unreliable offensively?! WTF

4-19-23 in 28 games and has been the driver on the PP and during all the injuries.

Just for fun...let's look at some defensive point shares:

Krug: 1.2
McAvoy: 1.3
Bergeron: 0.8

But the hate society is in full effect so facts are useless

He’s got value, I just think we’d be better off with an offensive player in his stead. Stats can be used strengthen or weaken arguments, so, sure, one can make the argument that he’s a good player. I agree that he’s good; but I don’t feel comfortable with him when he’s on the ice and don’t feel that his multiple point games compensate for his too-frequent bonehead plays.

We can't trade Krug , OK....give him another month or so and everything will come into place , including McAvoy. Can return to the thought at seasons end on what to do going forward ...but now is not the time ..imo

Krug is a frustrating player to watch. His vision (particularly on the PP) is elite and he’s a point producer. When he’s going good, there are few offensive D better. On the flip side, to say he’s an adventure in his own end is to put it mildly.

I’m not sure I want the B’s to re-sign him. Obviously, a lot depends on the continued development of guys like Grizz, UV, Lauzon, Zboril.

I just went thru the 8 short handed goals allowed and none were Krugs fault

Kappanen trips Krug on one and draws ire of Cassidy should have been penalty but hey he’s a Leaf and it’s Toronto

He was out injured on 4
Nice leg work , I always like to look at the facts within the fact

Can someone please explain to me how exactly the Bruins would replace Krug's +50pts per season?

I'll be waiting

100% agreed. This team's problem is absolutely not keeping the puck out of the net. Their at the top of the league in goals against. The problem is scoring and somehow the geniuses here think that getting rid of Krug is going to help. Can't win every game 1-0 or 2-1.

All comes down to the money right? If we assume he'll get the kind of money most point-producing Dmen get, no way I re-sign him. Durability, size and shitty defense are all valid concerns with him. He's a 3rd pairing defensive player, at best. Obviously he's elite offensively. But if that's your position of greatest depth I'm not sure how you keep him unless the plan is to unload multiple LD prospects, which seems unlikely for multiple reasons.

Coming around to the idea he's a summer trade rather than in-season, if for no other reason than I don't see any in-season trades being likely around here. Hope he can stay healthy and make the 1st round competitive, maybe steal a round, then deal him in the summer if his contract demands are up there with the elite offensive dmen.

Well presumably his replacement would be better defensively as it's hard to imagine how someone couldn't be, right? Then you give McAvoy, Gryz and others more PP time and I'd be bullish on their production. Ultimately you aren't going to replace all of Krug, surely, but you're better defensively without him AND you save money as he's likely to cost big bucks.

I think it's also key to note that I don't think anyone WANTS him gone. Ideally you absolutely keep him. But this team clearly needs more talent up front and Krug should be one of the few on this team with real trade value whom you'd trade given his situation. In a fantasy world this GM closes a signed, youngish, quality top 6 forward, he keeps Krug and lots of folks are happy. The roster for the near term would surely be better for it. But I think many of us view that as a pipe dream.

I wanna keep him. I've always enjoyed having him on the team. But i'm worrie about them shelling out tons of cash

But I was worried about that with both Marchand and Pasta, and hey, look how that turned out!

i think my mind playing tricks on me and its making me believe that people are actually making a case of getting rid of Krug.

who will run the pp?

does anybody remember the dark days/years when the Bruins were in search of an offensive dman post Ray Bourque? take a look around the league. IF your team does not have an offensive minded dman, you are desperately looking for one.

I get that Krug will be expensive. However, this is a team that struggles mightily for goal production. Yesterday was a prime example -- without our PP firing on all cylinders and our usual suspects (apologies to S Kuraly -- just generalizing) we'd have been on the outside looking in.

I'm not complaining -- just trying to underscore that we are a team that needs O very badly.

IMO, trading Krug is a huge risk. Not saying you don't take huge risks, just that we better get some grade A Prime O coming back if we do. And by that, I mean someone who will make you perk up expecting something good every shift he steps on the ice.

Well, it's simple. In fact it's really very very basic.

First you ...... well, what I mean by that is you have to look at it ...... er, holistically. Seriously, it's not an issue. What I mean is that, although in practice it might appear problematic, theoretically it's just so clear. What you need to do, is you, well, you know... you just shuffle it around a little. Yeah, you just......., well....... you just.....

Oh.... FML.......

Oh.... FML.......

you just need McAvoy and Grizz to both increase their production by 100%...not a big ask, haha

McAvoy + Grizz = 2-20-22 in 55 combined games
Torey Krug = 4-20-24 in 29 games

Last year its 47 pts combined vs 59 for Krug

Well if they replaced Krug with Grzelcyk or Vaakanainen, that wouldn’t replace Krug’s production. If they made a couple moves that had Krug going the other way for say Schenn and Dadonov, completely hypothetical, that more then makes up for the loss of Krug imo. All of a sudden you get Krejci’s line going with a highly skilled wing and Schenn would make the 3rd line good. We currently have black holes in both positions so putting players like that there would give the Bruins a better chance to win in the playoffs.
